This special event includes short films and conversation, presented in partnership with the Media Smart Libraries Project.

What makes a film worth watching? Learn how to be a film sleuth and how to encourage kids to think more deeply about what they watch. Eric Bilodeau, Director of Programming, leads a PCFF Cinema Detective program teaching kids how to decode film. Afterward, educator Sarah Yahm introduces the new PCFF Film Hub, showing families, teachers, and librarians a new way to find quality films and resources that can inspire programming, spark conversation and make community connections.

Join Providence Children’s Film Festival and artists Ricky Katowicz and Hayley Morris to build a city using simple materials like cardboard boxes, glue and paint while we record the process to create a time-lapse video! Free with museum admission. Ages: 6+

MAKE A STOP MOTION MOVIE @ Washington Park LibraryShare your library love while learning the craft of animated storytelling to make a collaborative short film! Free. Pre-registration recommended. Ages: 8+

YOUTH FILMMAKING WORKSHOPS @ RISD Auditorium Building

PCFF is thrilled to offer children hands-on workshops to learn the craft of filmmaking. Designed for ages 6 to 14, our innovative February workshops are taught by a super-talented team of local filmmakers and members of RISD’s Film/Animation/Video Department. The group workshop reel will be screened at the February 21 Youth Filmmaker Showcase.

Cost $55 per workshop. Pre-registration required.

LIVE ACTION! Foley and Field AudioEver wondered how a soundtrack is scored for your favorite animated movie or

film? Learn, experiment, and create sound effects and sounds in this exciting class.

LIVE ACTION! Green ScreenEver wondered how a green screen works? In this workshop students learn the

fundamentals of green screening special effects and take turns filming themselves

in front of a green screen first then constructing backgrounds based on their own

artwork to place themselves in. Ages 10–14

LIVE ACTION! Special Effects and Camera TricksDiscover the world behind practical special effects using common ingredients.

Concoctions of slime, blood, and alien drool will be made in class. Learn how to

use a camera to, fly, slide, and teleport. Ages 10–14

ClaymationExplore the art of claymation. Make things grow, disappear and smile...in clay! Using

clay, students experiment with simple forms and textures.

Sci-Fi Animation AdventureEver dreamed about flying to outer space to see new worlds?

Bring your imagination and learn the art of animated

in this workshop. Using a dark room, and

flashlights students generate moving light

with long exposure photography. Make
