Public Participatory GIS (PPGIS) and Volunteered Geographic Information (VGI)
April 16, 2013
Definition of VGI:
Private citizens creating and sharing geographic information, often without formal qualifications, intentionally or otherwise. This is a function that for centuries has been mainly reserved to official agencies.
Volunteered Geographic Information operates at many levels – the followingexamples are arranged in terms of experience required, from high to low to none

Is it possible to build from these images a true sky survey? We expect the answer is “yes”
Epidemic intelligence
- Focuses on event detection, prior to official health care reporting, laboratory confirmation and eventual official notification
- Ad hoc detection and interpretation of unstructured information available on the Internet
