SUMMARY
In March 1996, a Pulse EM DEEPEN survey was carried out
on a property owned by FALCONBRIDGE LIMITED, namely the
McVEIGH Project, in Strathy township, Temagami area, Province
of Ontario.
The survey detected two weak conductors which could be
possibly related to weakly conductive structures or
mineralized zones located in the bedrock.
Recommendations for further work should consist of a few
induced polarization profiles in order to verify the nature of
the weak DEEPEM conductors, followed by diamond drilling to
test the best geophysical responses.

INTRODUCTION
An electromagnetic Pulse EM DEEPEM survey was carried out
during the month of March 1996 on a claim block owned by
FALCONBRIDGE LIMITED, designated McVEIGH Project, in Strathy
Township, Province of Ontario.
This survey was designed to detect the possible presence
at depth of conductive mineralized zones potentially rich in
base and/or precious metals.
PROPERTY, LOCATION AND ACCESS
The property is located approximately 4 km NW of the town
of Temagami, in Strathy Township, Province of Ontario.
The access is from Temagami to the north via road #11
(3 km) and then to the west along a secondary road for 3 km to
the claim block.
The mineral exploration permits are owned by
FALCONBRIDGE LIMITED and have been registered with the
Ministry of Northern Development and Mines of Ontario. Their
numbers are shown in Figure #1 and the survey area is
presented in Figure #2 of the present report.
GEOPHYSICAL SURVEY
From March 20th to 23th, 1996, a Pulse EM DEEPEM survey
was carried out on the McVEIGH Project. In total, 15.1 line-
km of DEEPEM survey were executed on the property with three
transmitting loop locations.
GvO
FALCONBRIDGE LIMITED
SURVEY SPECIFICATIONS AND INSTRUMENTATION
The survey was executed along a grid of N.NW-S.SE
oriented lines, cut at a 100 m interval and marked every 25 m.
The DEEPEM survey was executed with the high power Crone
Geophysics pulse EM (PEM) system. The PULSE EM system
consists of two main components: the transmitter and the
receiver. The transmitter, powered by a 4000 Watt gas
generator (High-Power System) produces a rectangular wave with
a linear ramp cut-off. This signal is circulated in a
single-turn loop of electric wire laid out on the ground and
whose dimensions are dictated by the conductivity of the
surrounding medium and by the required depth penetration.
Three transmitting loop positions (shown on maps 5.l and 5.3)
were used with dimensions of 400 m x 800 m to 1000 m.
The sudden cut-off of the current in the transmitting
loop (typically 12 to 18 Amperes) causes the induction of
secondary currents in any conductive structure that is
located within the activation distance of the loop (Figure
#3).
The second component of the system, the receiver,
detects the variations of the magnetic field associated with
these secondary currents. A sensor picks-up the signal at
surface and the receiver measures the amplitude of the 16
time-windows of the decaying secondary magnetic field. The
decay rate, the amplitude of the individual windows
(channels), and the spatial variations of these features are
all specific characteristics of the target.
QwO
FALCONBRIDGE LIMITED
Measurements were taken every 50 or locally 25 metres,
along the survey lines. The decaying secondary magnetic field
is measured along two components: the vertical component (Z)
and the horizontal component (X) which is parallel to the
survey line. The results are presented in the form of
profiles of the amplitude of the individual channel, plotted
against the reading point.
RESULTS AND INTERPRETATION
No strong deep conductor was detected by the present
survey. The best conductive zone was detected with Loop #1 on
lines 800W to 500W between BLO and 350N and is characterized
by 6-channel responses present on both components. This
conductor which seems to be located at a depth inferior to
20 m appears to follow the SE shore of a river; it could be
explained by a weakly conductive structure or mineralized zone
(stringers ?) in the bedrock, but also possibly, by a
resistivity contrast in the overburden.
As for the strong amplitude responses outlined on the
northern part of lines 600W and 500W and indicating near-
surface conductors, they seem to follow the road and could be
caused by the adjoined powerline.
Finally a few very weak 2-channel responses were detected
with Loops #2 and #3. These responses seem to constitute a
very weak conductive zone showing an E-W to E.NE-W.SW
orientation locally associated with the river. This anomaly
could represent a shallow very weak conductive structure.
GvO
FALCONBRIDGE LIMITED
CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATIONS
The Pulse EM DEEPEM survey executed on the McVEIGH
Project only detected to weak shallow conductive zones which,
however, could be related to mineralized structures or
horizons in the bedrock.
It is recommended to execute a few induced polarization
and resistivity profiles on the property in order to verify
the nature of both DEEPEM conductors.
Recommendations for further work should consist of
diamond drilling to test the best geophysical responses.
