Cause and effect diagram –

on poor placements of students

Cause and effect diagrams (also called fishbone

diagrams, herringbone diagrams, Ishikawa

diagrams, or Fishikawa) are Causal diagram created

by Kaoru Ishikawa (1968) that show the causes of a

specific event.

Common uses of the Ishikawa diagram are Product

design and quality defect prevention, to identify

potential factors causing an overall effect. Each

cause or reason for imperfection is a source of

variation

Cause and Effect diagram was originally developed as

a quality control tool, but you can use the technique

just as well in other ways. You can use it to:

Discover the root cause of a problem.

Uncover bottlenecks in your processes.

Identify where and why a process isn't

working

Causes in a cause & effect diagram are frequently

arranged into four major categories. While these

categories can be anything, you will often see:

manpower, methods, materials, and machinery

(recommended for manufacturing)

equipment, policies, procedures, and people

(recommended for administration and service)

We are still using the old education system which we were using years ago.

We are not yet updated with the new technologiesand methods.(For eg. We are using VB 6.0 instead of the new versions of VB.)

That’s the main reason that we are lagging behind other countries.(For eg. China , Japan, Singapore.)

Our quality of education is not up to the mark as

compared to other countries.

No. of institutes are increasing whereas the quality of

education is degrading, there are only a few institutes

providing qualitative education.

Our teaching pattern focuses basically on theoretical

knowledge that’s why students are lacking practical

skills.

Teachers are not well qualified, skilled and

experienced in most of the institutes.

Our education system gives importance only to domain expertise and ignore soft skills.

Very few students have knowledge of soft skills and know its importance.

Lack of soft skills is making students educated unemployed.

Very few institutes provide life skills training and there are also less number of life skills trainers available.

In India most, of students follow rat race and remain unaware or ignored about their interest area.

Very few students have knowledge of vast range of career options , most of the students rely on three or four career options.

In a very few institutes vocational counseling is available to help students.

Skilled vocational counselors available are also few in numbers.

By upgrading education system , we can solve most of the problems related to poor placements.

By adopting world class approach.

By improving quality of education i. e. fair balance between theoretical and practical knowledge.

Use of upgraded technologies and methods.

Along with the domain expertise we need to give life skills’ training in school as well as in college.

According to a study in Stanford University the most successful graduates give only 12.5% credit to their domain expertise and 87.5% credit to their soft skills.

We need to hire well qualified life skill trainers.

Timely workshops should be organized on the life skill.

Use of upgraded technologies for improving knowledge regarding career options.

Vocational counseling should be started from the school level.

Parents should be made aware about the various career opportunities.

Students must choose their career option with their own decision with their free will according to their interest area.

We come to realize that what are the things that we should

avoid and importance of the small mistakes we usually

commit.

We came to know that a qualitative education system can

boost our career opportunities.

we understand the importance of soft skills in our

education and day to day life.

one should choose their career options after critical

thinking and according to one’s interest.

We got to know about the cause and effect diagram , its

importance and its uses. It helped us to know the basic

or root causes of our big major problem

By thinking so deep about this topic gives us an insight

to improve our own perception regarding the causes

and their effect regarding less campus selection of

students.

It helped us to improve our own performance. We

should not make job our goal but a medium to unleash

our potential in our passionate field.
