Shops of the Month for September are Colours Down Under and Kraft Daze Sewing World. Both shops will be providing members with an informative pop-up on Sewing Day and Night. See you there!

BRING A RED FABRIC FAT QUARTER
TO SEWING DAY AND SEWING NIGHT A fat quarter is defined as a meter of fabric cut in half horizontally and then again vertically so should measure 50cmx56 cm or 18inches x 22inches. But we also want you to cut your fat quarter in half thereby making a Fat eighth which should measure 50x28 cm or 18x11 inches. BRING BOTH PIECES!!!! everything will be revealed at sewing day /night. Come along and join in to find out!!

40TH ANNIVERSARY DINNER
The organizers of the Dinner would like
to thank those of our members who
came forward with generous
enthusiasm to help with the clean-
up. This was certainly a time when
“more hands make light work” and we
certainly appreciated the extra and
cheerful hands. You know who you
are!
THANK YOU.
Community Quilts
We are donating lots of quilts this month – 91 in fact so don’t forget to check them out at the display at Sewing Day/Night or on the Blog.
We finished 6 more wall hangings for Kath Mazella for Gynaecological Awareness Day on 10th September (using all the Knickers blocks returned from our March BOM)
We completed the extra quilts needed to fulfil our pledge of 40 quilts to St Barts to put on the beds at their new Kensington Transitional Accommodation facility for older women. Don’t worry if you still have some older female quilts in the pipeline, we can always use them for the Nursing Homes we donate to; and we are still working our way through the Community Quilts stash of floral fabric pre-cuts so you will see more of these in our UFOs to take home at Sewing Day/Night.
Thanks everyone who has risen to the challenge and helped us build up our supply of male quilts – in fact we have quite a stash of them now so if anyone knows of an agency that might welcome adult Male Quilts please email me.
The next CQ Bee will be a Friday night (21st October) at Alexander Park Craft – 6.00-9.00pm. Email me if you are interested and I will send you more details.
We are very excited to have moved a lot of Community Quilt “stuff” into the new storage area at Stirling Adriatic Club – it’s fantastic!
This month’s BOM will be Christmas placemats. We made 200 last year, so I am sure they will prove popular again this year. Fish out your Christmas scraps. We will have some fabric scraps at Sewing Day/Night and quite a lot of the pre-cut/pieced wadding rectangles as well as bags of wadding scraps you can take home to piece your own 13” x 19” wadding rectangles. We will demonstrate some ideas for using the Sew and Flip technique to make the placemats – note there will not be a specific pattern posted on the website for this month. Remember we will need your completed placemats (finished size 12” x 18”) back to us at the November Sewing Day/Night or the Christmas function on evening of Wednesday 7th December.
And finally, don’t forget there will be plenty of bargains for sale on the Community Quilts tables at the Bazaar in October – fabric excess to our needs, lots of notions and books so bring your money.
Yours in quilting,
Cathy - waqacommunityquilts@gmail.com
SMALL (ISH) JOBS TO HELP YOUR COMMITTEE!
Assist the running of the Guild. Now is the time to take on a job or even job-share! We need several people to assist currently: Photographer – somebody who can use their camera or iPhone to ensure our history is preserved and our news is shared
Feature Article Writer – QQ Magazine will be all the better for more information and interviews with members. If you have always wanted to exercise your writing skills, this is a great job to get to know other members and share items of interest Quilt Stand Hire – Now that we have our quilt stands at Stirling we need somebody living locally to assist with handling enquiries and pick up/drop off of quilt stands when required. There are a couple of large events and several small hires that go out each year. An easy job, but one that would be helpful if you live near to the lock up. Community Quilts – We are looking for an organised co-ordinator of the Community Quilt Team. We now have people to handle the sewing bees, monthly distributions, block of the month and manning the table at sewing day and night, but this team does need a leader to organise the reporting and communication by email. Can you help?
Librarian – With a willing band of helpers and a currently organised library, we need somebody to help run the system on sewing days and nights…...is this you?

WAQA WORKSHOPS SEPTEMBER
UPDATE
I wish to thank all participants in workshops this year. Of the 13 workshops offered between October 2015 and October 2016, approximately 171 people have participated in 1 or more workshops and have been taught by 10 different teachers, some teaching more than once. Thank you to all who have taken part and I encourage you to look in December’s QQ for next year’s list of workshops and get your application in quickly so you don’t miss out.
For now, the November workshop in Foundation Paper Piecing has just filled. I am happy to take your name if you are really interested and you will go onto a wait list in case someone cancels.
Don’t forget to come and hear Wendy Williams speak at the AGM on October 5th. You will also see some amazing quilts to inspire you. There are just 2 places left in her 2-day workshop and if you like stitching and the idea of appliqué with felt, this is for you.
Thank you everyone,
Kerry Moore

SMALL GROUPS NEWS
Thank you to the 25 small groups who
endeavoured to update their contact
details and let me know if they had any
space in their group. Please fill out the
form on the table if your group has not
done so in the past 18 months and if
