Dear Mums, Dads, Students and Friends Term 1 Progress Reports A short progress report will be sent home to parents on Tuesday next week. Teachers will be organising to meet with parents in week 1 of term 2 if a conference is required. Parents are welcome to request a conference. Golf Program Today the Year 3 and Year 4 classes had their final golf session with Mr Keith Francis, our wonderful golf coach. They went to the Palmerston Golf Course for the skills session and to have an experience on a real golf course. Year 5 and 6 students will have the opportunity next term to play golf with students from other schools as their culminating activity. On Monday and Tuesday our students were treated to a visit by Renice Freeman from the Commonwealth Bank Smart Start program, which focuses on teaching children about financial literacy. Year 1 and 2 lessons focused on the Australian currency and needs as opposed to wants. Year 3 and Year 4 students participated in a great team building session focused on shopping choices, EFTPOS and debit and credit cards. Year 5 and 6 lessons focused on budgeting, ways to earn money and setting financial goals –‘See It, Earn It, Save It!’ Harmony Day Monday 21st March This week we celebrated Australia’s cultural diversity with a variety of activities throughout the school. Activities included making posters or art work representing people from different cultures living in harmony with one another. Students from some classes brought plates of traditional food to share with others. On Monday It was wonderful to see so many children remembering to wear Orange, the colour representing Harmony Day. At the assembly last Friday the junior choir celebrated by singing ‘We are the World’ and the upper primary choir by singing ‘Waka Nini Yana’, an Indigenous song. Bullying. No Way! Last Friday was the National Day of Action against bullying. Durack School Wellbeing and Behaviour Policy can be accessed on the school website. Thank you to everyone who donated Easter Eggs for our raffle and bought raffle tickets. We raised $1260.00! This money will go towards upgrading our computer technology. Disco Thursday 31st March 6:00pm to 7:30pm Remember to note this event in your diary as this is always very popular with students. I wish you all a very enjoyable Easter! Sheila Delahay
