Introduction

Introduction This presentation focuses on the results of

longitudinal research into changes in Quantity Surveying practice in Australia since 1995 –7 surveys approximately every 2 years between 1995 & 2008 –Ongoing research (surveys planned every 2 years)

These results will then be compared to an extension of this survey in 2008 that included all PAQS member countries

Building Information Modeling (BIM) & Web-Based Information Management Systems

Building Information Modeling (BIM) Systems –90% of Australian firms stated that they have not been involved in the use of BIM on their projects

Collaborative web-based information management systems (eg. Aconex) –56% of firms stated that they have not been involved in the use of these systems –Only 5% of firms were using it on over 50% of their projects.

Concluding Comments QS firms in Australia and the PAQS

Region have been very successful in adapting their services to meet industry changes and demands

However, the survey results indicate that the majority of firms are not embracing and evolving with leading edge IT tools and systems at a sufficient level –This represents a major challenge for the profession
