"The Games are an opportunity for learning across
the curriculum and beyond. Global Citizenship and
International Education can become integrated
within the life of the school. Interdisciplinary learning
and cross curricular projects can be introduced to all
participants."
The 2012 Olympic Games gave Queen Anne High
School and its 13 Cluster Primary School their first
opportunity for large scale cooperation on a major one
year project.
• We allocated each school a country
• QAHS became China
• Year long projects followed
• All schools involved followed the same pattern

What about a skill that has stood the test of time from its first introduction when QAHS became a Confucius Classroom, a skill that
goes back literally thousands of years!
Legacy is very important.
Cycling is a very popular Olympic Sport.
How could we take that interest forward?

the
Cluster Olympics took place!

For the Commonwealth
Games QAHS is to be India
What sort of things will be happening this time around?
Establish a link with a similar school in India to set up projects that will build on the
Commonwealth Games theme but also allow for diversity to explore particularly the culture
of both lands
Currently investigating a variety of projects
•Physical Education - Hockey and Kabaddi
•Home Economics - Indian Cookery
•Music - Indian instruments and Indian music
•Art - Indian Art and its influence
•Modern Languages - very keen to establish pen pal links and video conferencing
•Social Subjects - Physical geography, historical links, political framework, BBC Commonwealth Class
•CDT - design and construction of the relay baton. Making of medals for the ceremonies
A new set of skills to learn as part of our link with India
The opportunities are far reaching and we hope to take advantage of as many as possible

Here is how everyone fits into the Nations of the Commonwealth
Work in the Cluster Primary Schools toward the Commonwealth Games
A Primary Perspective
Enriching global citizenship within the Primary ClassroomUsing real life contexts – Olympic and Commonwealth Games Promoting physical activity, physical education and lifelong participation in sport
Outline • Cluster Olympic Event – successful
transition for Primary 7• On reflection missed opportunity for
citizenship focused learning • Use Commonwealth Games as a
transition for P7 but also a rich opportunity for whole school involvement
Cluster Olympic Games
How could we have involved the whole school more?
How can we ensure there are explicit links to global citizenship?
Commonwealth Games
Our first steps: • Created citizenship planners and split
skills into early, first and second level• Made links with other curricular areas • Active team assemblies • Whole school charity focus
Using Commonwealth Games as a Context for Learning
Commonwealth Games
Next Steps: • Planning rich cross curricular teaching and
learning activities for the whole school. • Set up mini-commonwealth games Sports
Day • Share with parents and local community • Continue to promote sport and recognise
achievements within and outwith school
There will be the Queen's Baton Relay
Beginning and ending at Queen Anne High School
and visiting every Associated Primary
School
