poems to Holocaust photographs. With this in mind, answer the following questions:
1. What did you think of last week’s poetry unit? Why do you think this? Do you think I should do the same thing next year, change it slightly, or get rid of it all together? Explain your answer. What do you think of the poems that you did write?

Last week, many of you expressed interest in knowing more about the concentration camp where Elie is being held.

The largest concentration camp. Between 1.1-3 million Jews died at this
location. Most deaths resulted from gas chambers
using Zyklon-B. The rest burned in crematories.

Elie boards the train for the main concentration camp, Auschwitz. In the train, Madame Schachter goes mad, claiming to see flames outside. Elie arrives at Birkenau, the reception center.
