We see new users as a valuable additional resource!Improve communicationIncrease effectiveness of GIS county-wide both internally and externally by having an internal working groupIndividuals will benefit on-the-job by using GIS as a toolEncourage collaboration and partnershipsProvide a learning environment:

Hands-On TrainingProject demonstrations, presentations, etc

Technical User GroupPresentations for users by usersIncrease awareness of technical and data resourcesEncourage discussionIdentify data needsForm special-interest workgroups

Example: Emergency Preparedness

Technical User GroupInitially, meetings will be held on a bi-monthly basis…will adjust as neededThis is YOUR User Group!!An idea to consider:

Split this group into two subgroups: New Users Experienced Users

Meet for 1-2 hoursFirst half hour: Entire Technical User Group meets togetherSecond half hour: Subgroups meet to come up with recommendations for the entire groupThird half hour: Entire group comes together and discuss recommendations

Monthly CD updatesFTP sites:

RCGISUG – Password protected Public – Anonymous login

Time consumingDanger of utilizing data that isn’t current

Where We’re Going : Enterprise GISWhat is an Enterprise GIS System?

Centralized data resourceContains both graphical and tabular data

Why move to an Enterprise GIS System?

Provides County wide functionality. Simplifies data layer maintenance/updating Serves a wider range of county needs. More efficient data distribution Opportunity to be a direct node on the MetroGIS Data CaféOpportunity for participation among multiple departments. Promotes shared vision, collaboration and development.
