During the 1960s, Nigeria was racked by a devastating civil war.   It was fought between 6 July 1967-15 January 1970 over the secession of the

state of Biafra from Nigeria. It was one of the bloodiest civil wars in Africa. A tragic internecine struggle between the federal government of Nigeria and the

breakaway republic of Biafra, the war attracted international condemnation and actually played a key role in developing the modern humanitarian aid system.

Inspite of the efforts of spokespeople and humanitarian organisations, the war never stopped. In 1969, there was a 72 hour truce between the two parties, which surprised the whole world. Although many expected the war to be over, it restarted after the temporary ceasefire, and continued for two more years.

What was the reason for this 72 hour ceasefire?

2 The most famous X is the eight-day festival of Sanfermines in honour

of Saint Fermin in Pamplona, although they are also traditionally held in other places such as towns and villages across Spain, Portugal, in some cities in Mexico, and southern France during the summer.

The origin of this event comes from the need to transport the _____ from the fields outside the city, where they were bred, to the ring, where they would be killed in the evening.

Spanish tradition says the true origin of X began in northeastern Spain during the early 14th century. While transporting _____ in order to sell them at the market, men would try to speed the process by hurrying them using tactics of fear and excitement. After years of this practice, the transportation and hurrying began to turn into a competition. When the popularity of this practice increased and was noticed more and more by the expanding population of Spanish cities, a tradition was created and stands to this day.

What annual event/festival is being talked about?

New Amsterdam was a 17th-century Dutch settlement, which served as the seat of the colonial government in New Netherland. The factorij became a settlement outside of Fort Amsterdam. Situated on the strategic, fortifiable southern tip of the island, the fort was meant to defend the Dutch West India Company's fur trade operations in the North River. It became a provincial extension of the Dutch Republic as of 1624 and was designated the capital of the province in 1625.

New Amsterdam was renamed X on September 8, 1664, in honor of the then Duke of ______ (later James II of England), in whose name the English had captured it. In 1667 the Dutch gave up their claim to the town and the rest of the colony, in exchange for control of the Spice Islands.

Emil Goldfus, a kindly, unassuming, retired photofinisher and amateur painter, became good friends with Burt Silverman and his colleagues, and spent 3 years working and creating together.

Surtsey Island, was formed in 1967 due to a volcanic eruption, 20 miles south of Iceland. Rather than letting tourists traipse around the virgin isle, scientists wanted to keep Surtsey free from human interference, so they could monitor the colonisation process of new land by plants and animals. The rocky outcrop has since revealed many natural secrets, prompting Unesco to declare it a World Heritage Site.

When the labyrinthine caves of Lascaux, France were discovered in 1940, they were found, much to the delight of archaeologists, to contain some of the world’s best-preserved Stone Age art, some of which was thought to be 17,300 years old. It was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The subterranean art gallery swiftly became one of the Dordogne’s top attractions, but in 1955 experts warned that carbon dioxide, heat and humidity brought into the caves by tourists was ruining the rock paintings.

What specific feature connects Lascaux Caves and Surtsey Island?

In his Feluda novel Golokdham Rahasya, Satyajit Ray introduced a word X. The protagonist says, “A new word has come into use these days-X. The Ramayan and the Mahabharat are like that- X”.

It is a portmanteau term combining 3 words. It has since been defined by various dictionaries as “unable to set aside”.

This term became more popular in the Eastern part of India with the launching of “The Telegraph” newspaper in Kolkata in 1982.

Give the term X.

Give the city X.

ANSWER

X dressed up as a 'male model' so she could enjoy an anonymous night out at a gay bar with Queen singer Freddie Mercury, television entertainer Kenny Everett and his co-star Cleo Rocos, it has been claimed. It was during one of their many get-togethers that a drink at the Royal Vauxhall Tavern in London was suggested.

Making the claims in her new book, Miss Rocos sets the scene by describing how Mercury had also come round to  Everett's flat and the four of them were larking around on Everett's sofa watching The Golden Girls.

Kenny turned the sound down on the television and we improvised the voices, but with a much naughtier storyline. 'Kenny was Blanche, X was Dorothy, Freddie was Sophia and I was Rose – we were uncontrollable with laughter. X, who was 27 at the time, was giggling from behind a cushion and asked what our plans were for that evening.

Radiation is a part of the natural world, and so things made with natural materials often contain radioactive elements. In the case of X, the natural material is granite. To begin with, the granite in X includes feldspar, which contains potassium. In any given supply of potassium there is a certain amount of the isotope potassium-40. The isotope breaks down two different ways. Of the two, the electron-capture is more damaging, as it is a process that sends out a high-energy gamma ray.

Granite is also sprinkled with thorium-232, which decays by sending out an alpha particle and another gamma ray. Granite doesn't have a lot of uranium overall, but it does have a greater concentration of uranium than most other natural stones.

It's worth noting that if X were a nuclear power plant, it would be shut down for exceeding the maximum allowable annual dose of radiation for employees. Inspite of that, it is supposed to be safe for the millions of people who pass through X everyday.

The origin of this term comes from the fact that there were many Egyptians working on the X. These workers were issued with special shirts, to show that they had the right to be on British property. They were Working On Government Service, so on the backs of their shirts, were printed the letters W.O.G.S.

The British have also used this term loosely for Indians working in British offices during the colonial rule.
