What is an Empowerment Grant?

$137K funded through Federal Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) for public improvements benefiting low/mod income neighborhoods in Topeka

Priorities: Citizen Involvement & Inclusiveness, Efficiency & Effectiveness, Neighborhood Empowerment

Grants awarded range from $5,000 up to $50,000.

Who is eligible to apply?

Eligible: Organizations representing low and moderate income neighborhoods and residents

Religious Organizations

Non-Profit Organizations

Ineligible: Taxing authorities & Neighborhoods currently in 2017-2019 SORT Target Areas

August 2018 Applications undergo preliminary Environmental Review Process

August 2018 Review Committee provided copies of proposals and visits project sites

September 2018 Review Committee meets to develop finalize recommendations

September / October 2018

Recommended applications undergo final Environmental Review Process

October / November 2018

City Council received Review Committee recommendations

January 2019 Contracts become effective, subject to appropriations. Funding cycle begins in January 2019.
