1.2 Contents of this document
The TX-I/O modules support most types of I/O signal from the UNIGYR, VISONIK and INTEGRAL legacy systems with exactly the same type of signal (functionality). Some rarer types of signal are not supported, or supported only partially.
This document describes some possible ways to proceed in such cases.
– Using other signal types, in order to use the TX-I/O modules and/or
– Using third-party equipment The solutions provide help for the following business case:
Existing field devices (periphery) shall remain in place. They are connected to TX-I/O modules which communicate with a DESIGO, UNIGYR or VISONIK automation station via P-Bus. The solutions can also serve as training documentation for engineers who are experienced with legacy systems and want to engineer a new plant with TX-I/O modules.

• The Tyco Schrack bases, type RT 78 724 bases with screw terminals are
suitable for mounting relays on standard rails • In addition to the RT types, types RX1, RY2 and MSR are also suitable.
These are not available for all input voltages but they have a lower current consumption.
Relays from other manufacturers: The contacts must be suitable for extra-low voltage. Use interface relays, not installation relays. Only the former ensure safe isolation between core and contact in accordance with VDE0160/EN50178 for low voltage circuits (SELV or PELV) in relation to hazardous current circuits.

2.3.2 Solutions for DC
The PTM specifications for DC are such that there is insufficient current for a relay coil. The DC solution, therefore, is to drive an analog input.

Three stage switch • The switching outputs and digital inputs are on separate I/O modules. • The three relay contacts must be wired in series externally. • Outputs 2 and 3 are wired in parallel. • Use an external safety interlock. • Modules with local override are admitted: the 3-stage function does not allow
switching directly to stages 2 and 3. • Disadvantage: 3 instead of 2 outputs are required.

2.9 Overvoltage of DC 0...10 V signals
A fault message is sent if the process value is outside the range of -1.5...11.5 V. This may be the case of certain DC 0...10 V signal converters. This message cannot be suppressed. The fault message can be avoided by connecting a Zener diode. However, real faults can no longer be detected as well.

3.2 NKID(H), AC/DC voltage interrogation
Digital input module for non-floating AC/DC 13V…240V signals. The module provides safe electrical isolation between the output (field device) and input (controller). External relay. Pay special attention to the voltage!

• The Tyco Schrack bases, type RT 78 724 with screw terminals are suitable for
mounting relays on standard rails • In addition to the RT types, types RX1, RY2 and MSR are also suitable.

T1 = System transformer (the supply voltage for the UA9 can come from the system transformer or from a separate transformer))
Y1 = Magnetic valve, max. 40 W The AC 24 V supply voltage for the UA9 with an operating voltage of AC 24 V can be taken from a "V " terminal of the universal or super universal module (field supply AC 24 V). One module can supply a maximum of 4 A. Interface converter, DC 0…10V to DC 0…20V Staefa phase-cut 120W Stand-alone module in Staefa klimo housing (NB: not NK module) From 2007 this device is no longer available! Operation of an existing NILAH module from a TX-I/O module.
This requires the following power supplies:
– Separate AC 24 V transformer (must NOT be earthed on the secondary side) – DC power supply module, 15V / min.30mA Configure Y10.

(requires safe isolation in accordance with VDE 0160 / EN 50178) Y1 = Magnetic valve, max. 120 W Replacement of a NILAH by parallel connection of up to 4 Siemens interface modules UA9, see data sheet N5133.
• The first UA9 (the master) is needed to convert DC 0…10V into a phase-cut DC 0…20 V signal.
• The other up to three modules (slaves) together supply a maximum of 120 VA. • As the "V " terminals of a universal or super universal module deliver only 4A,
a separate AC 24 V transformer is needed to feed four UA9 devices. It must NOT be earthed (earth loop).
• Use the connection diagram below – the diagram in the data sheet N5133 is incorrect!

3.6 NKDG, NKDW, transducer modules
The transducer modules transmit voltage signals 1:1 from input to output or from output to input without electrical separation. In addition, they have a field supply terminal for active sensors / transmitters / actors: • NKDW: AC 24 V • NKDG: DC 15 V • TX-I/O Universal or Super universal module;
Supply of the active sensors / transmitters / actors from terminal "V ". Configure U10 (input) or Y10S (output).

3.7 Special "safety interlock" option (This option is also known as "forced control")
The NK output modules are fitted with "safety interlock" terminals. • This enables the signal from the controller to be overridden via an external
contact. • If the "OFF" terminal is switched to SGND voltage via the external contact, the
signal output goes to OFF or 0%. • If the "ON" terminal is switched to SGND voltage via the external contact, the
signal output goes to ON or 100%. • For modules with a manual switch (NKOxH) the manual switches takes priority
over the safety interlock. For migration of the safety interlock function, the states of the ON/OFF contacts must be transferred via digital input data points. These must be linked to the appropriate output data point in the application.
