Chapter 11

Mammary Ducts

Female Behavior

• Attractivity - postures, vocalization, other behaviors, pheromones

• Proceptivity - head butting, mounting of male, female-female mounting

• Receptivity - immobility, lordosis, tail deviation, backing up toward the male

Erection of the Penis• Elevation of arterial blood inflow• Dilation of corporal sinusoids - erotogenic

stimuli – release nitric oxide – convert guanylate triphosphate to cyclic guanosine monophosphate, Phosphodiesterase 5 converts cGMP to GMP – increased vascular tone – loss of erection, Sildenafil blocks PDE 5

• Restricted venus outflow• Elevated intrapenile pressure• Relaxation of retractor penis muscle

Postcopulatory Behavior

• Refractory period – length of time before a second ejaculation can occur – Influenced by: sexual rest, age, species, female novelty, number of previous ejaculations

• Satiation – further stimuli will not cause immediate responsiveness

• Exhaustion – no further sexual behavior can be induced
