A very attractive research field is the measurement of i l tt ti d t i f ll i isignal attenuation due to rainfall over a region, using
public frequencies lying around WiMax or even 3G,4GUsing a dense network over a region we could collectUsing a dense network over a region we could collect additional rainfall data improving conventional rainfall measurements
INDOOR LOCALIZATION USING UWB SIGNALSINDOOR LOCALIZATION USING UWB SIGNALSIndoor localization systems using RF signals such as Bluetooth or Wifihave limited accuracy due to narrowband assumption.Impulse Radio - UWB (IR-UWB) localization systems are based on very short pulses with width on the order of ns.Due to very narrow pulse widths it is “easy” to distinguish between direct
th d lti thpath and multipath. The low power and high data rate make this technology viable and competitive in the telecommunications field. Th d ’t d 10 d t i d b th t d d IEEEThe range doesn’t exceed 10m, as determined by the standard IEEE 802.15.3a. For outdoor applications the equivalent standard IEEE 802.15.4a has been createdbeen created.

Schumann Resonances Network
Each SR node of the network will be cable to continuously capture and monitor special characteristics of the spectrum, along with its variations over time
The SR detection system could possibly consist of three main parts that are the antenna the amplification and filtering and the data acquisition system.
All the data and results will be available through web among the participants
Low Emission or Passive Radars
Work efficiently in areas that cannot be covered by active radar systems.

Faculty and Staff Staff Members of Electronics Telecommunications and Applications Lab, Physics Department, University of Ioannina have in depth experience in electronics and telecommunication R&D. ETA Lab have excellent cooperation relations, within and outside Greek borders, with several universities, research centers and enterprises.
Team The research team consists of 4 faculty, 4 postdoctoral fellows and 1 doctoral student. Team members come from a variety of disciplines and come with different skills.
Skills Software radios, digital signal processing techniques, smart antennas, object-oriented programming and hardware implementations, design and development of wireless and embedded systems, antenna design, measuring technology and satellite links, electronic properties of micro- and nanoelectronic devices.
Resources & Infrastructure
Research development and measurements for: • MIMO systems (emission - reception) • UWB systems • OFDM systems using DSP • Digital Modulation • Digital transceivers (eg BPSK, QPSK, CDMA, etc.)
• Design and manufacture of various antenna types Horn, PIFA, spiral, Vivaldi, etc. • Software Radio / Smart Antennas • Rapid electronic digitizers label, multi-channel data storage systems, etc.
Our Research Laboratory The laboratory is equipped with scientific instruments such as oscilloscopes, generators, RF, arbitrary RF generators, spectrum analyzers, PCB bonding, etc., which permit reliable experimental measurements. Digital design is possible through Altera PLD's that programmed with the program Quartus. CPLD's can be programmed in three ways: schematic diagram, VHDL, State machines or any combination of three methods. There is also the possibility of developing DSP applications using the Texas Instruments IDE tools.
