The dawn of a new era…

He pioneered the Harlem Renaissance with his way of thinking.

Being one of the first “known” black poets, he set the standard during the early 20th century.

“The Negro Speaks Of Rivers”

Where he came from…

Forged by the racial environment during the early 1900’s, Langston Hughes painted a reflective image of what African Americans had to go through during that time.

Hughes took notice of how black women had more responsibility and had to deal with more hardships then white women during his time.

He noted that a strong black woman is the key to a strong black family.

Langston Hughes addressed the faith of his fellow African American people in several of his poems and essays.

His own religious views can be inferred from what he writes, but keep in mind that he wrote about the troubles of society, and not his own troubles.

Langston Hughes died on May 22, 1967 at the age of 65. He accomplished many goals throughout his life, and was one of the greatest African American writers of all time.
