Tracer Study: Draft concept as developed by

Arber Hajrizaj and others

▪ Purpose:

− impact on educational policy in the region

− E.g. how can region profit from the knowledge mobile

students bring back? Towards brain circulation

▪ Target group:

− All potential members of WBAA (ex mobile students)

▪ Mode of surveying: Online

▪ Schedule:

− 2019 preparation

− 2020 implementation, reporting

unger@ihs.ac.at WBAA Tracer Study 8

Objectives of the research session

▪ Define topics and main research questions for

the survey (work in small groups)

▪ Fix a schedule for 2019

▪ Clarify division of labour:

Who is going to do what until when?

unger@ihs.ac.at WBAA Tracer Study 9

Potential topics for the survey

(Arber + IHS)

1. Mobility program impressions (skills gained, personal development, perceived value of

the experience/degree gained in the EU, perception of

Europe before and after their studies)

2. Comparison of people who stayed in the region

vs. those who left (returnees vs. non returnees, brain drain)

3. Assessment of impact of studying abroad on

professional and personal life

4. Comparison of study + research conditions in EU

and Western Balkans

(Arber + IHS)

5. Potential impact on education in the region (what

do alumni want to improve most in home

education)

6. Current situation of Alumni (education,

occupation, average salary, unemployment rate,

etc.)

7. Social live in the respective countries (family
