INTRODUCTION
We welcome all our friends and Hereford enthusiasts back for our 5th Annual Online Sale. The Online format has
been a great tool for us. No longer do we have to truck animals down the road to a consignment sale before send-
ing them off to their new homes. The savings in trucking, hotels and stress on the animals means we can deliver a
healthier animal to you, our clients, at less cost In fact, the buyers get to shop from the comfort of home and no
longer have to travel costly miles to view the cattle in a sale barn. It’s a win-win for everyone.
Our past year at Tlell has been a focus on health, family and cows. Mom and Dad are still in their home on the
Ranch. Dad at 83 is unable to do much more than lend moral support due to pulmonary fibrosis. Mom is his primary
caregiver and still does her share of the Ranch books but arthritis has not been kind to her. Son Dane has finished
his first year of veterinary practice in Kamloops and plans to return to Tlell next year. The transition of our veteri-
nary practice in Tlell to new management means the next few years will likely see construction of a new Vet Clinic
associated with our remodeled feed store. We continue to develop Bill and Jamie’s new property to be a productive
piece of farm land with the first silage crop due to come off shortly. Bill and Jamie are major components of the
Richardson Ranch team, working side by side in all aspects of our business ventures including our Feed Store and
Animal Hospital as well as our beef cattle business. Brothers Mike and Dave do their part to contribute to mainte-
nance and repairs on the Ranch and nephew Kenny certainly works hard when he is home from his fishing job.
Last year we sold Tlell Polled Hereford genetics across Canada and overseas to Finland, Denmark, UK, Germany
and Uruguay. Our Tlell 199S Xplosive 18X bull has been successfully collected by Semex and leads off the Here-
ford bulls in their 2014 International Semen Catalogue. Last November we made another excursion to Farmfair and
brought home the Reserve Grand Champion Hereford Female banner with a homebred cow who has NJW 73S
M326 Trust 100W ET embryos in our sale this year. There are seven generations of Tlell breeding in this cow!
This spring we again had the team of Dr. Marty Darrow and Dr. Phil Chris from Greenbelt Embryo Transplant Ser-
vices come to Tlell to help us recover over fifty Grade 1 exportable embryos which qualify for many countries in-
cluding the EU. Several of these embryo packages will be offered in this sale.
Again last fall we consigned another group of our Hereford bull calves to the Canadian Hereford Association’s Net
Feed Efficiency Trials at OIds College. We believe this venture into genomics and net feed efficiency is the way to
help solidify Herefords as a cornerstone breed in the Canadian cattle industry. Our thirty years of selection for rate
of gain in our Hereford cattle once again was very evident when we had three of the top four gaining bulls in the
pen. The first feed efficiency EPDs are expected out this summer and we are excited because now that we can
measure it, we can select for it!
Along with the embryo lots mentioned above, our sale this year includes a selection of very useful bred heifers, two
young cows, three of our best heifer calves as well as three exceptional bull calves. This is your first opportunity to
purchase offspring from our New Zealand imported Koanui Rocket 0219 bull who is an exciting tool to use as he is
both an outcross and a curve bender. He has worked very well on our Red Cedar daughters and we are offering
you a bull calf, two heifer calves, embryos and pregnant recipients from this great proven Koanui sire. Whatever
your choice, we are confident that you will be pleased and most importantly, these cattle will work for you! We guar-
antee all cattle in the sale are DLF, IEF & HYF and to help our buyers get their purchases home this fall we will of-
fer free trailering from Tlell along Highway 16 as far as the Alberta/Saskatchewan border.
In appreciation of our buyers’ commitment to purchase Tlell cattle we will once more this year have a buyers draw
for a stay at Tlell in one of our Guest Houses. There is river fishing for Coho at your front door if you come in late
August. We will include return tickets for two on Air Canada from your closest major airport to Sandspit in the sum-
mer of 2015.
Don & Leslie
Thick, deep, powerful and classy certainly describe this heifer. Backed by eight generations of proven and
predictable genetics. Her all Tlell pedigree is backed up by Online, Super Duty, Beyond, Embracer, Blue

her dam at the 2013 Farmfair International’s Western National Hereford Show when her dam was de-
clared Reserve Grand Champion Female. She was also Reserve Champion Legends of the Fall Hereford
Heifer at the same show. AI bred to Tlell 8N Red Zulu 1Z on May 5, 2014, exposed to Tlell 20X

Wow ! This is the maternal brother to Tlell 199S Xplosive 18X, the Canadian Western Agribition Grand Champion
Polled Hereford bull in 2012. Bennett 3B is a powerful herd sire prospect sired by SHF Rib Eye R117. Rib Eye is a
trait leader in eight categories in the PACE EPD fall 2014 run, including BW, CE, Milk, MCE, Total Maternal, Scrotal

Champion Hereford Female at the 2010 Farmfair International Western National Hereford Show. Incredible length
of spine, big hip, smooth shouldered and clean fronted. Smooth on the move with above average testicular devel-
opment. Huge potential here. Use with confidence on cows and heifers to increase both maternal and carcass

From the Jade cow family this is an ET Rocket daughter from a Red Cedar dam. She is a 3/4 sister to the Lot
#9 heifer and a maternal sister to Lot #4. Her mother is a direct daughter of the original KFRD 75A Jade ET
550C we purchased from the Saddle Valley Dispersal. Lots of early growth in this heifer. She struts her
stuff with a lot of authority and has been a favorite all spring. If you want a heifer to compete in the ring
this fall and yet come home and raise you a champion the first time out, she should be your pick.

An ET Rib Eye daughter from our donor cow Tanya 31U. Embryos from this flush also sold to Germany, Fin-
land and Denmark. This is a beautiful heifer in a more conservative package and has the numbers to be in
the top of everyone’s replacement pen. Maternal sister is offered as Lot# 2A. The Tanya cow family got
the most attention from our offshore visitors during the World Hereford Tours in 2012. You can’t go wrong
with choosing a Tanya. This heifer traces back to the Glen Poundmaker daughter, Klondike Beauty 789C.

A three year old daughter of the 2013 Farm Fair Reserve Grand Champion and sired by the Denver Champi-

insists on calving in the March/April time frame so doesn’t fit with our program. For those breeders who
calve later in the spring, this is a win for you. You will have to go a long way to find a nicer cow. We showed
her once at the 2013 Nechako Valley Exhibition where she was the top two year old with calf at side. This
young cow is a maternal sister to the Lot 1 heifer!

on both groups. The dam of Ambush 9A, Tlell 29F Carla ET 5W, out of the Crittenden Carla 35J cow and

Welcome to the Richardson Ranch 5th Annual Online Auction. Again this year we are using LiveAuctions.TV , assisted by
Katie Colyer and Craig Flewelling, to make the process smoother and more secure. Please read the following instructions and
if you have any trouble or questions, be sure to give us a call at 250-557-4348 or email us at don@richardsonranch.ca
RICHARDSON RANCH 5th ANNUAL ONLINE AUCTION DATES AND TIMES
The auction is set to open for bids at 9:00 a.m. Pacific Daylight Savings Time on Thursday, September 18th, 2014 with the internet gavel coming down on the first lot at 7:00 p.m. PDST Monday, September 21th, 2014. We will then proceed to sell one lot at a time, with the lot going to the highest bidder when no further bidding has occurred in 45 seconds since the last bid. A sale order will be posted 9:00 AM on September 18. If you don’t have computer access, phone in bids will be accepted at the numbers listed on the terms and conditions page. Due to some folks computers and their marginal internet connection I would stress that you use the maximum proxy bid feature if you really want a lot. If your computer takes time to refresh the screen when you are making a crucial bid you may be disappointed and lose the animal to a lessor bid. Alternately you may give your bid to either
Craig Flewelling at fcc@xplornet.com or 403-556-0515 or
Katie Colyer at katie@hereford.com or (208)599-2962
HOW TO PARTICIPATE
In order to participate in the online auction you will need to pre-
register and obtain a buyer number. To do this go to the LiveAuctions website, www.liveauctions.tv, and select Richardson Ranch 5th Annual
Online Auction. After logging in the buyer registration form should pop up automatically. If it doesn’t there is a link you can select that says, “register
for a buyer number”. This form requires you to fill out your bank’s name, city, province, phone number and a contact. You may register to bid after bid-
ding has opened but please remember that authorization to bid is not instantaneous so please plan ahead.
HOW THE AUCTION WORKS
Once you have a username and have received a buyer number then you are ready to bid. You will see a screen that is unique to your user ID. There
will be a list containing the sale lots. If you click on a lot the video clip or photo will be displayed to the right. The next bid, current price, proxy bid, and
manual bid buttons will be displayed below the video area. This page will react to your bids by stating, “you are in” or “you are out”.
No one else will be able to see your bid – that data is not accessible to the public. Each time you login, the auction screen will display your personal
bidding information. Your auction screen is unique and private displaying your activity to only you. Remember that you must have the lot that you
are bidding on selected. This is where it tells you if you are in or out. It is here where you can also see your proxy (automatic) bid settings as applica-
ble.
WHAT IS A PROXY BID?
With a proxy bid you can enter your maximum bid and then sit back and watch. When you enter a proxy bid amount the LiveAuctions system automati-
cally bids on your behalf up to your maximum bid. If the lot closes out for less than your maximum, that’s all you’ll have to pay. This means that you
don’t have to keep coming back to re-bid every time another bid is placed. This makes it more convenient and less time consuming. It can also greatly
assists those breeders that can’t be near a computer or are busy with other duties at the time of the final bidding.
Your maximum amount is kept confidential from other bidders and the seller. Even though you can see this amount on your screen no one else can.
The LiveAuctions system compares your bid to those of the other registered bidders and the system automatically places bids on your behalf, using
only as much of your bid as is necessary to maintain your high bid position. The system will bid only up to your maximum amount as necessary to main-
tain you as the high bidder. If another bidder has a higher maximum, you’ll be outbid and the system will tell you that “YOU’RE OUT”. But, if no other
bidder has a higher maximum you win the final bid.
