Africa is witnessing a decline in its biodiversity due to trade, climate change, and unsustainable land-‐use practices. This event will provide a platform to present the 2012Africa Ecological Footprint Report “Green infrastructure for the sustainable development of Africa” which argues that although Africa is endowed with vast bio-‐capacity, it is witnessing a decline in biodiversity, and ecosystems are under threat as a result of major stressors such as trade in primary products, climate change, and unsustainable land-‐use practices.
This side event will allow the AfDB and WWF with the support of the government of Senegal to launch the report and present a video based on the reports’ findings. The event aims to demonstrate that Green Development Paths that invest in ‘green infrastructure’ are possible in Africa and in other countries that derive resources from Africa.
