Introduction

High definition visual and thermal inspections by using aerial robots (drones) of welds, anchorages, nozzles and other equipment;

Inspection of hazardous and enclosed spaces with difficult accessibility;

Application areas are storage tanks, pressure vessels, stacks, boilers, furnaces, ship tanks and other enclosures;

Replacing complex and costly inspections normally conducted by scaffolding or rope access.

Justifications

• Safety

- Reduced risks to prevent working at elevated levels on scaffolding, by rope access or other means

- No exposure to hazardous chemicals

- No risks due to confined entry in tanks or vessels

• Cost effective

- Costs for drone inspection are limited to preparation and execution in the field (i.e. 1 day)

- No expensive installation of scaffolding

• Reduced equipment downtime

- Pre-inspection to reveal the repair scope (if any)

- Prevention of downtime due to preparation for entry, installation of scaffolding and conventional inspection

- Returning equipment for commercial utilization
