Ryrie St.

Parallel parking in the CBD has reduced the number of parking spaces in order to accommodate a bike lane.

Tony Ansett’s 2012plan is to remove the bike lane and give greater parking access to commuters visiting the CBD. Pictured here is an example of parallel parking and a wall of cars along Ryrie street passing by.

Ryrie Street on a Friday afternoon. Most cities around Australia would normally have their busiest streets packed during this peak shopping time.

Tony Ansett and Hayden Hurling, both former councillors for the city, agree that businesses have been shutting down en masse since the introduction of the bike lane and the removal of angled parking.
