Located in Gowanus, the artist studio program gave liberty to introduce a “wild card” determined by needs of the site and conceptual diagrams of programmatic relationships. The diagrams led to a study on the closeness of program, a gradient from completely undistinguished to complete-ly disparate. Interrogating the conventional pairing of programs drove the project to reveal the perverse relationships of the programs to each other, with a narrative about the cul-tivation of mind and body through activity.

the acropolis new york, new yorkin collaboration with Usama Dussadeevutikul
The addition of offices to the Mid-Manhattan Public Library on the corner of Bryant Park meant creating a high rise building in dialogue with the rest of the city and in particular the park itself. The office typology calls for repe-tition and practicality, with many coding con-straints and issues of both architecture and real estate development. However, at the top of the podium and mountain lies the acropolis : a library for meditation, contemplation, and re-laxation away from the chaos of Fifth Avenue.

Throughout the year, Florence faces large issues of tourist congestion at specific his-torical sites throughout the city. Investi-gating and mapping different conditions of urbanistic context, the city center was “whit-ed out” and instead maniacally ordered with a gridded courtyard housing scheme as well as grand boulevards for museums, archives, and other tourist programming. The space around churches and palazzos were cleared to create new piazzas, with one boulevard connecting the Duomo to Ponte Vecchio and one boulevard connecting Santa Croce to Santa Maria Novella.

recycled landscapes syracuse, new york
The existing art park in downtown Syracuse is surrounded by industrial warehouses, facing scalar issues in its attempt to increase vitality in the city. The recycling center was implemented as a social statement about environmental conservation in which the visitors can witness the “cradle to cradle” processes involved in waste manage-ment plants. The landscape was introduced to create a gradual path for leisurely occu-pation and guide inhabitants through flexibly programmed spaces within the building.

The invention of teleportation generates ques-tions on the spatial ramifications of mass transit as well as spaces resulting from move-ment and travel patterns. The project makes an argument about the need for circulation as a social space, that urban life thrives in tran-sitional “in-between” spaces. The teleporta-tion device, using copious amounts of ener-gy, leads to mass teleportation of groups of people internationally, defining the in-between as a place of occupation in the movement towards global destinations.

Upon mapping and diagramming downtown syracuse, the university programs were introduced to revitalize the area and connect the school to the city. A gallery and theater, the vertical core encourages interaction through movement, outdoor balconies, and double height exhibition spaces. The building sets itself back on the strip site, creating a public plaza through which the facade reveals circu-lation and art works located on the core walls.

Addressing the controversy concerning the displacement of over 9,000 residents in its construction, a residential complex wasreintroduced to the Albany State Plaza. This programmatic element alludes to and spatial-ly comments on the historical context of the plaza’s erection and consequently the new sectional arrangement of its hierarchy. The new residences sit on top of existing reflecting pools, previously which were unoccupiable. The concourse level below ground was kept as is, while all non-load bearing walls were demolished to create a larger more flexible open space hosting a new conven-tion center and larger assembly programs.
