PEEC has started in early 2001 as a contractor and solution provider
company. Under the great leadership of Mr Muzzafar Hussain in a short
time period due to its progress now itsa well known company in the
field of solution provider and protection devices manufacturing
companies. The importance of electric supply in everyday life has
reached such a stage that it is desirable to protect the power system from
harm during fault condition and to ensure maximum continuity supply.
For this purpose, means must be provided to switch on or off generators,
transmission lines, distributers and other equipment under both normal
and abnormal conditions. This is achieved by apparatus called
switchgear. A switchgear is essentially consists of switching andprotecting devices such as switches, fuses, circuit breakers, relays,
instrument transformers, ammeters, voltmeters, pushbuttons etc.
In this century Itsa well reputed name in switch gear industry of
Pakistan. PEEC is basically protective panels manufacturing company. It
is licensed with Still Electrics German. All components which are using
here are according to the international standards. This is also certified
with ISO 9001.
This company is also licensed holder in Pakistan. Power control
centers, , Motor control centers, PLC and Drive based panels, AMF
panels, control and relay panels, Synchronization panels, lighting and
distribution boards, PF correction panels are manufactured here. This
company also provides the facilities of maintenance and repairing of
these panels with one year warranty. Some of the companyscustomers
are Descon, Nestle, PNG Pakistan, Pepsi, and Ufone.
Mostly the machinery under their use is imported from different
countries such as German, Russia ,Australia ,USA etc.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
In this internship report i mentioned the work which iavdone in PEEC
during mine 8 weeks of industrial training visit.
Pak east engineering company basically
design & manufacture custom built and standard electrical switch
boards, control panels, Motor Control Centers and bus ducts.
The internship started from july 10th 2012 and ended on September 2nd
2012.
The internship started with the intro and history of the company later on
its vision, objectives followed by the detail of products and services
provided to other companies.
PEEC have maintained the very simple management structure
and processes information around departments in a very professional
manner .

First of all of we design the schematic and control diagrams of panels
according to customer requirements in AutoCAD software and then we
prepare the job according to the drawing as given below.
There are following workshops to manufacture these panels.

Cutting Hall:-
In this hall sheets of mild steel/iron are brought and cut them
according to the drawing of panels. Cutting of these sheets is done by
sharing machine and after that we send these cutting pieces to fabrication
hall for pressing/notching, bending, welding and painting etc.

Fabrication Hall:-
Following works are done on Jobs in fabrication hall.
a)Pressing/notching.
b)Bending.

After cutting the iron sheets we pressed/notch them to make
edges of these sheets by Mega Pressing Machine in fabrication hall.
b)
Bending:-
After Notching we bend them and we bend the job according to
our drawing by folding machine. We bend the sheet at 90 degree angle.
c)Welding:-
After cutting different parts of sheets we weld these parts. These
different parts of job are join/weld by welding plant and then plane these
welding parts by grinder.
3)
Washing hall:-
Jobs are washed after welding by different chemicals such as
degreasing, sulphuric acid etc .Jobs are washed to avoid them rusting andremove dust, oil or other things. To avoid from rusting of jobs we use
sulphuric acid and this whole process is known as degreasing. After
degreasing the job we stick the phosphate powder on job to avoid it from
further rusting and when we paint the job so that paint sticks strongly onto
job for a long time.

When we washed these parts of job and brought them for paint,
formally we removed their dust by pressure machine and then charged
these parts of job by earthen them and paint these jobs by paint gun. Afterpaint these parts of job we sent them into furnace, where paint is heated at
225C temperature so that paint strongly sticks to job for a long time.
4)Electrical Hall:-
Following works are done in electrical hall.

There are two types of fitting.

Circuit breakers can also be classified on the basis of number of poles i.e.
i. Single pole circuit breaker.
ii. Two pole circuit breaker.

But we used circuit breaker according to customer requirement e.g. single
pole breaker is normally used for control circuit while three or four pole
beaker is used for power incoming and outgoing circuits of panels.

Contactor:-
Contactor is an electrical control switch. A simple contactor has eight pins
in which six for three phase supply and two for contactor coils. For more
contacts we use auxiliary with contactor which is electrically linked with it.
A single phase supply is provided to contactor coil. Its current rating is two
times of motor rating.

Overload Relay:-
As it is known by its name that is it is used for the protection of motor to
avoid it from over current. Its rating is same as motor current rating which
is also adjustable. As the current exceed the rated current of motor the
operate and trip the circuit due to which our motor is protected from
damage.
After the fitting of suitable components according to customer requirement
we wired these components and wiring of these components involve two
types.
a)Power wiring.
b)Control wiring.
a)Power Wiring:-
Power wiring is done after the fitting of electrical components. In power
wiring first of all we fit copper bus bars according to the measurement of
panel after that we use flexible or standard cables for power wiring i.e.
from bus bars these power cables go to circuit breaker and then from
circuit breaker to contactor ,contactor to overload relay and in last fromoverload relay to motor/load.

Power wiring of all circuit is almost same and can be done by a little bit
modification but control of each type of panel is different depend upon load

The PFI Panel is designed in a binary sequence so that a large number of
combinations are available for a given set of contactors. An intelligent
banking pattern provides all the combinations needed to achieve the presettarget without hunting, thereby increasing the life of the contactors and
capacitors.
Switching In & Switching Out:
Thyristor switching provides rapid ON/OFF switching of capacitors and
quick achievement of set PF targets. This also enhances the contactors and

These are also used to monitor the power factor of various electrical
systems. We also assemble various capacitors, MCB, MCCB and capacity
duty contractors in APFC that acts as in-built protective devices to cut off
power in case there is excess power in the system. The capacitors are also
provided with series reactors that minimize harmonic current that
otherwise can alter system voltage and current.To make the panels longlasting, these equipment are mould in a powder coated metal box.

Low Tension (LT) Panel:
Energypac Engineering Limited manufactures low voltage switchgear
(hereafter called LT Panel) which is applied for power control and
distribution systems of AC 50Hz, rated working voltage up to 440V. It's
mainly used in power station, industrial enterprise,
Commercial/Residential Buildings for power distribution and can be used
to control, protect and inspect the circuit.
The design meets with the standard of IEC439;GB7251. Frame, which
consists of zincification steel plate by "C" shaped steel by means of steel
rivets and accusing screw. The dimension inside of cabinet and separation
cubicles is modular and carried out exchanged of the same unit in
specification. Low voltage can endure the discharging; heat and mechanism
stress caused by short circuit fault, but also prevent the let and position of

The door, shrouding and frame will be coated with epoxy resin power and

meets with the requirement of ZBK36001-89, IEC439, IEC694. All the

AMF Panel controls & minitors the standby generator and main supplyautomatically. It disconnects the load from main power source automatically to
the standby source. Similarly, when the main power is restored, it reverts the
load back to the main source automatically. Thus, system of the main & stand-
by switching is entirely interlocked electrically and mechanically with all
generator safeties
Medium Voltage Switchgear Cubicles are manufactured
from 6.6 KV to 25 KV.
The cubicles are manufactured and designed in such a
way that no work is carried out at site exceptconnection of Medium Voltage Cubicle in Cubicle
Department. The cubicles design incorporates all
necessary interlocks to safeguard the equipment as well

All protection relays, measuring & protection
instruments are mounted on Instruments & relay of
component for easy accessibility.
The circuit breaker trolley (VCB) contains service
position, test / isolated position and withdrawn
position, In-Service position, automatic shutter system
is provided for protection against the live parts.
The cubicles are manufactured from 12KV to 17.5KV
with basic Insulation Level (BIL) of 75KV to 95KV and
degree of protection IP 3X as well as IP 4X. The
cubicles are degreased, derusted chemically with Zinc
Phosphate to protect them against corrosion.
The cubicles are painted with final finish RAL 7032
color (Powder coated or Stove Paint) after process of
cleaning, pre-treatment and anti rust coatig.

Easier Way to Find Capacitor Value:
To properly select the amount of KVAR required to correct the lagging
power factor of a 3-phase motor you must follow the steps as stated.
Step #1: Determine KW and Existing Power Factor.
Step # 2: Existing Power Factor on Table, move across
table to Desired Power Factor. The number represented isyour multiplier number.
Step #3: Multiply KW by the multiplier of the Desired
Power Factor.

ATS PANNEL:
ATS Panel should only be installed, maintained or serviced by a qualified
electrician.
The generator set may start without warning whilst in AUTO mode.
Before undertaking any service or maintenance work, ensure the mains and
generator supply is isolated and generator is switched to off.
The generator is supplied with the battery disconnected/isolated for safety
reasons and should not be re-connected until all connections have been
made.
Because of the nature of the equipment and the permanent mains
connection, the terminals within the generator may be LIVE even if the
generator itself is not running.
2 Installations:
Make sure that the Generator is at least one meter away from any building
during operation.
Operate in a well ventilated unconfined area, so that fumes can be properly
dispersed.

Silencer outlet should be facing an open area to prevent fumes being
recirculated.
Consideration will also need to be made for refuelling and maintenance.
If installing in a confined area please consult manufacturer.
2.1 Electrical installation:
AC Wiring
Please ensure the correct cross sectional area of cable between the
alternator/panel and distribution board used is adequate to carry the full
rated continuous output of the generator,
allowing for derating in high ambient temperatures. Please consult IEE
regulations as per the correct sizing of cable and other issues regarding
wiring. Flexible cable is recommended for alternator connections allowing
for a generous loop before the cable enters the alternator terminal box
because of the vibration caused by the set starting. If this is not possible a
terminal box can be fitted nearby and flex fitted between this and the
generator terminal box.

These precautions will not be needed when fixing to a control box which is
not attached to the alternator.
DC Wiring
For the DC wiring we recommend 1.5mm if the generator is more than
10Meters away please consult manufacturer for cable sizing. Please refer to
Wiring diagram.
3 ATS Panel Equipment:
3.1 ATS controlENKO ATS 1.1
ATS1.1 automatic transfer unit is a microprocessor based digital unitmonitoring the 3 phases of the mains and controls the changeover of mains
and generator contactors if a mains failure on any phase is detected. The
module is able to display all the parameters which are essential for the basic
gen-set transfer control.The module has 3 operation modes. Test on load,
test off load and Auto operation modes can be chosen via the push-buttons
mounted on the front panel.

3.2 Monitoring and Indicators:
By pressing the menu button the voltage and frequency measurements can

3 Modes of operation
OFF Mode:
The module is placed into OFF mode by pressing MENU & TEST OFF

Running on load the module will allow the alternator to run off load to cool
it adequately. When the cooling time is expired, the module will de-energise
the start output and the engine is brought to rest.
AUTO Mode:
The module is placed into auto mode by pressing auto button. If a mains
failure on any phase is detected after the mains failure delay timer expires,
the load is switched off from the mains and the ATS unit will automatically
issue a start command to the genset controller by using the parameters
settings. When the generator operates within the limits the load is
transferred to the generator by the ATS module .When the mains supply
has been restored after the mains transition delay timer expires, the ATS
module will transfer the load back from the generator to the mains supply
and remove the start command from the genset controller after the coolingtime. In case of a failure while operating, the unit will stop the generator
automatically. A clear mimic diagram and LEDs provide information about
the load status and voltages.

This is used to manually start the engine on load even when the mains
voltage is within the Limits.
TEST OFF LOAD :
This is used to manually start the engine off load even when the mains
voltage is within the limits. The load is supplied by the mains but if themains supply fails, then the load is transferred to the generator
automatically.

3.6 Battery charger On/Off switch &
lamp:
To isolate the mains operated battery charger which maintains the engine
starter battery to a healthy condition. Under normal circumstances this is
left in the on position, with lamp illuminated.
3.7 Change over contactors:
Pair of suitably rated contactors, one for each supply, electrically and
mechanically interlocked to avoid paralleling of supplies.

3.10 Emergency stop:
When the Emergency stop is activated, the module will de-energise
generator contactor output relay. The module will issue a stop command to
stop the generator at the same time.

Furthermore, interns in external consulting organizations spend the
majority of their time analyzing data, conducting validation studies, writing
reports, developing training courses and/or selection assessments, and
directing client contact (e.g., conduct focus groups) while interns in internal
consulting organizations conduct job analyses, analyze data, manage
projects, collect data, write reports, and develop selection assessments.
While there is some overlap in the most frequent tasks, the differences are
notable.

contact with them. Many lessons were accidentally taught to me, about real
life experiences and I gained some confidence. On the other hand, I have
just realized what were some people saying about the good points of havingan internship.
I clawed my way back from every badness that I met but, the
bad points were actually haunted during internship. I was knee-deep in
duty and had got it bad, when I was endeavoring to solve my problem.
Hence, I almost forgot everything about my real life. Through the 28-weeks,
I would like a slave, doing whatever my supervisor commanded without any
humanity.
In conclusion regarding the good and bad points of having an internship, I
feel that the internship experience is really needed. For me, the main
point of having an internship is that I can prepare the ground for real
experience which gives me some confidence. So, overall having
an internship is the best things that I ever did.
