DIVISION ONE This is a personal message fo you from your school superintendent. First, I want to tel l you

that I have nothing b j * 1 o say about our opponents. I do not believe in that. As far as I know they are fine peoo|»<Sid I do not know what they would do if elected.

But, w h ^ r t o know is how your present Board of Education works, what they stand for, a i d what they plan to do in the future. Your present Board of Education has your child at heart. They have provided for vour children safe, comfortable transportation; good warm dean classrooms;

and equipment to teach with and good teachers-to teach; all without raising your taxes.

. v ' .. - .. ~ -. •We have capable, qualified teachers sincerely dedicated to the profession and doing a fine job. The schools are well organized and with good discipline. Our high school graduates r e ac-cepted in superior colleges. A l l four consolidated schools are rated highly by the State Depart-ment of Education.

Our new Federal Program has also been rated highly. Hundreds of needy children have been helped by this program with shoes, clothing, additional transportation, glasses and many physi-cal defects have been corrected. Our school nurse'and social worker areSielp.ing children each day in some way. The reading teachers are giving the children who need it extra help in reading so they can be successful students. Approximately 2000 of our dear children have been helped already in some way by this program. Of course, we needed this money for buildings but that wasn't what i t was allocated for so we had to take it and use i t the way the guidelines from Washington specified.

We have consolidated fast, A few short years ago, we had.over 75 one-room schools and now we have only 7. We know that further consolidation wi l l take place in the future. We know that a central high school wi l l come sooner or later but this Board wants to build it with State and Fede-ral funds and not over tax the people of Rockcastle County. That project w i l l cost approximately 1 ' : mil l ion dollars and would more than double our taxes to pay off the bonds. We have been pro-mised a Vocational ^School which w i l l be paid for mostly by Federal funds and that is the way we want to pay for the high school.

Your school account has never gone in the red any y e a since I have been your superintendent. Not many school systems in the State of Kentucky can say this. Your Board of Education and I believe in sound financial dealings. Your school account has been in the Bank of Mt. Vernon all these years. You may call the President of the Bank of Mt. Vernon (Mr. N. M. Smock) in re-gad to these tacts i f you l ike. Our bookkeeper (Mr. Lloyd G. Shutts) w i l l be glad to show you his books and audit reports at any time.

If you wish to continue to have your schools operated in this business-like manner; to stay -within the budget; and not raise your taxes then keep Preston P. Nunnelley and Mrs. Vashti MuIlins on your Boad of Education.
