We do not publicly discuss individual cases of student discipline.

Generally speaking, however, any suggestion that a student would be

disciplined on the basis of race contradicts everything we teach ourstudents about inclusion and equality and is, quite frankly, offensive.

We have clearly stated policies that deal with student code of conduct,

appropriate use of the internet, and discipline, while curriculum dealing

with the proper use of social media is taught at almost all grade levels.

In today’s climate where mass shootings have become a regularoccurrence, students need to know that any threats that suggest such

violence are going to be taken extremely seriously.

If a student creates a situation in which police need to be called in to

deal with a threat that’s either perceived or real, that creates an

injurious disruption to the school climate which will be taken very

seriously, and there will be consequences.

If any student ever feels that there is a threat to a school from someone

else there are many ways for them to convey that concern to school

authorities. They can inform parents, a teacher, call the principal, or

even call police.

The WECDSB remains committed to creating safe and equitable schoolenvironments for all of its students.
