Sean Tucker andRandolph Sunglasses

It’s 1972 and two engineers working for the American Optical Company in Southbridge, MA

decide to strike out on their own and team up with Sean Tucker, aerobatic pilot extraordinaire.

Their names? Jan Waszkiewicz and Stanley Zaleski.

Randolph Engineering starts out like any other fledgling business with nothing more than an idea and the opinion that they could create a

better product than the company they had been working for.

But how to get traction in a market saturated with competitors?

Well, that’s where Sean Tucker comes in.

Sean D. Tucker is a pilot who has spent his life searching for excellence and working at

perfecting his skills as an aerobatic pilot.

He is a full-throttle kind of pilot who has been performing at airshows around the world since

the mid-70’s.

Ah, so now we see the connection – a company struggling to make a name for itself and it’s product combined with an aerobatic pilot

searching for sponsors to feed his desire to perform aerobatics.

A perfect combination you might say.

The 2017 AOPA R.A. “Bob” Hoover Trophy

By unanimous agreement of the selection committee members Sean D. Tucker has been chosen to receive the second 2017 AOPA R.A. “Bob” Hoover Trophy, a wish that the late Bob

Hoover himself had.

Two Winners

And so today we have two winners: Sean D. Tucker, aerobatic pilot extraordinaire and

Randolph Engineering, manufacturer of the incredibly beautiful and functional

Randolph Aviator Sunglasses.
