Management SummaryHello everyone and welcome to the new edition of Seascape Surveyor. Firstly, Iwould like to introduce myself to colleagues that I have not met previously.

My background is in geotechnical engineering, although my career has led to afocus on sales and marketing. I lived in Jakarta from 1995 to 2004, then I moved toAustralia with my wife Uut and our daughter Mutiara (Tara). I have worked closelywith Shaun, and Peter since 2001, when I joined PT Komaritim.

I have been working with Seascape Surveys since our Company was formed in Q12005. I have spent very little time in Asia since then, as I have been acting as aConsultant to Chevron in Perth on a full-time basis, where I was responsible forcoordinating numerous offshore survey and geotechnical projects.

As Commercial Manager of Seascape Surveys, I am now based in South-East Asia, and am overall responsible for our marketing and tendering activities in the region. My main focus at present is making contact with potential clients and alliancepartners, to ensure that they are aware of our current capabilities and contactdetails. I also intend to upgrade our website over the next few weeks. Please feelfree to give me your suggestions for changes to our website.

As my topic for this Newsletter, I would like to put down some of my thoughts onmarketing and to suggest why I consider each and every one of us to be part of ourmarketing team!

I am a great believer that our best form of marketing, is for Seascape Surveys toexecute our projects well (safely, professionally and on-time). Poorly executedprojects cause damage to Company reputation, which no amount of marketing canovercome. I have been following our project performance closely over the last 3years, and am pleased to note that our project execution has been very good. Ihave no doubt that good project execution has built our good reputation, and hasbeen the cornerstone of our success. This shows how everyone involved in projectexecution is a key part of our marketing team.

I would like to relate a story about a recent marketing trip that I made, to Malaysiaand Thailand. I was not familiar with local Hotels, so I did internet searches todecide on Hotels which were well-located, and reasonably priced. The standard

ne Hotel was quite large and had been established for several years. The room wasice enough. There were a lot of people staying there. The dining room was very busyor breakfast. The food at breakfast was OK. There were frequent long waits for thelevators. I could not get internet access. It took a while to get service at theeception desk. The problems were small things, nothing I felt a need to complainbout.

he other Hotel was relatively small and had recently been opened. The room wasery nice. The food at breakfast was very good. I had free high-speed wirelessnternet access in my room.

t the end of my trip, on reflection it occurred to me that although I was satisfiedith both Hotels, there was a major difference between them, which I had not fullyppreciated at the time.

he main difference between the Hotels was the attitude of the employees. The stafft the new Hotel appeared to enjoy their work. They were extremely pleasant andelpful at all times. On the day I left the Hotel I checked-out in the morning, andeturned late in the afternoon to pick up my bags and head to the airport. Hoteleception staff asked if I would like to use Hotel facilities to take a shower andhange before heading to the airport. Arriving in Singapore at midnight that evening Iealized how uncomfortable the trip would have been if I had just picked up my bagsnd gone to the airport. A couple of days later I received an email questionnaire fromhe Hotel asking for my feedback on my stay. After I completed the questionnaire, theotel contacted me again to thank me.

s I mentioned earlier, my initial impression was that I was satisfied with both Hotels.owever, whilst I did not really think about it at the time, during my next trip I will ofourse stay again at the “new and small” Hotel, and will try another Hotel instead ofhe “established and big” one.

would like to think that our level of service will remain high, and will actuallymprove, as we make the transition from being a “new and small” survey company toecoming an “established and big” one.

firmly believe that we have done very well with our project execution and our levelf service provided to our clients to date. I would like all of us to think about whethere are satisfied to meet our clients expectations, or whether we should try to exceed

hem. Can each of us make a difference? After my recent trip, I am convinced that wean!

look forward to meeting new colleagues, and to working more closely with all of youn my new role. I hope you enjoy reading our latest Newsletter.

Safety Observation Card

The SOC system is used by Seascape Surveys to encourage safety awareness, and provide a facility for communicating safety

hazards amongst all staff and management. All SOC’s are collated and reviewed by the safety committee on a monthly basis,

and can be submitted anonymously if preferred. Staff are reminded to make a copy of any SOC’s they submit directly to a

client, and submit the copy to Seascape so we can use the information also.

Our HSE RepresentativesDuring March 2008, Seascape announced the appointment of a team of 5 HSE Representatives.

Reliance Industries Limited is developing the gasfields Dhirubhai-1 and Dhirubhai-3. The total gasfield covers an area of approximately 7,500 km2 andis located in the Bay of Bengal off the East Coast ofIndia, 60 km south-east of the city of Kakinada.(See location map.)

The Dhirubhai gas field was first discovered in 2002and was the world’s largest gas discovery at thattime. The initial development for Dhirubhai-1 andDhirubhai-3 are only 2 out of 13 discoveries andrepresents 4.5% of the block area.

Eighteen wells and six manifolds will be producingto an Onshore Terminal via twin export gas pipelinesthrough a Control Riser Platform which is located27km from the shore. A total of 36 pipelines with acombined length of 300 km will be installed, whichwill require 10,500,000m3 of dredging and 1,000,000tons of rock dumping. The water depth on theproject varies from 100m at the CRP platform to950m at the wellheads.

Bechtel International was awarded the contract tomanage the project for Reliance. Bechtel sub-contracted Seascape Surveys (Singapore) to providethe survey management. The first Seascape Surveysperson, (Dave Young), arrived on location in Oct-07.

The pipeline and subsea construction contract wasawarded to the Allseas Group (one of the majoroffshore pipelay and subsea construction companiesin the world). Allseas has a total of six specializedvessels and four of those are involved on thisproject.

Allseas is performing the installation of the pipelinesand flowlines. The anchor lay barge Tog Mor (LOA125m) is laying the gas export trunklines from thelandfall to the CRP. The DP pipelay vessels Lorelay(LOA 183m) and Audacia (LOA 225m) are laying thedeepwater section of the trunklines and theflowlines. This is the first major project for theAudacia. All three vessels also have dedicatedsurvey vessels supporting them for touch downmonitoring (TDM) and as-laid/as-built surveys. TheHighland Fortress and Highland Rover are long termcharters by Allseas for the deepwater operations.Fugro has chartered a local vessel for the TDMbehind the LB Tog Mor. The trenching supportvessel DP Calamity Jane (LOA 151m) will be used tobury the pipeline nearer the CRP outside thedredging areas (KP21 – KP27).

Allseas have sub-contracted Boskalis International

Allseas have sub-contracted Boskalis International forthe dredging and backfilling. They have an enormousspread on site including two cutter suction dredges(for the shallow areas), three trailer suction hopperdredges for the deeper areas and a water injectiondredge for tidying the trench prior to the pipelay. The backfilling will be performed by fall pipe (for thesmaller aggregate) and side dump (for the largerrockdumping). There is also the many associatedsupport vessels. Boskalis have constructed their ownpermanent camp near the landfall area.

Helix has also been sub-contracted by Allseas. Helix isinstalling the subsea structures and the umbilicals. The DP Helix Express (LOA 159m) multi-service vesselis installing these. Included in the Helix scope of workis also the spools and risers at the CRP. This is beingperformed by the DP Helix Eclipse (LOA 116m).

The platform installation was awarded to J RayMcDermott. The DB-101 was successfully used toinstall the CRP.

It is estimated that the combined work durations forall vessels involved will be about 1,575 days or 4.3vessel years. There are several survey sub-contractors providingpositioning for the various vessels. These include GeoCentury (Helix vessels), TLGH (Allseas survey vessels)and Fugro (near-shore).

One of the largest logistic problems is the control ofthe simultaneous operations (SimOps) in the field. There will be up to six construction vessels working ina confined area at any time. Coordinating activities isparamount. From a survey perspective, there is anLBL array installed containing some 60 compatts.Control of the frequencies is required. There arenumerous structures on the seabed, many of thesetemporary Dead Man Anchors (DMAs) and initiationwires. With all the activities it is the responsibility ofthe surveyors to record and control the locations of allthe structures. Structures such as manifolds areinstalled relative to existing structures such aswellheads. Over a period of time many measurementswill be made on these structures. Coordinating finalas-built positions for onshore fabrication of jumpers isrequired.

IT Knowledge

Common Computer Problems at the Sea

From several emails about computer problems I got recently, they share common things. Let’s hope you bring thisnewsletter to the sea and can help you a little.

1. Computer Overheating

This is the Lord of the Problem for most computers. Everycomputer that we have basically already has sufficient coolingsystem, but somewhere and somehow overheating sometimecome in practice.

The symptoms for this disease are:1. Computer accidentally / regularly stop responding2. Computer regularly restart by itself3. Computer Shutdown by itself4. Computer stop responding on Boot5. Computer CPU temperature show 55-60 degree or

more

The simplest way to check CPU temperature is to go to BIOS ->Advanced -> Hardware Monitor. Various Bios provide differentway to see the hardware monitor, but basically is the same.

Cause:1. Running computer 24 / 7 ( yeah, sure )2. The casing cooling fans are not working properly / not

properly fitted.3. Working room temperature not cool enough.4. CPU Heat sinks and fan not properly fitted.5. Cooling fan for Video Card not working properly.

Cure:1. Check the casing cooling fans, make sure everything

is working properly (spinning fast enough).2. Clear any dust on fans and heat sink.3. Check CPU fan and heat sink make sure fitted

properly and fan spinning fast. ( Sometime it is looseon transport / unstable vessel condition )

4. Check Video Card fan and clear as necessary. Notethat Video card fan is not replaceable.

5. Lower room temperature6. Ask for Fans / Heat sink / Video Card replacement if

necessary.

2. Virus Attack

This disease is like plague in the vessel, usually once 1computer infected, almost all computers will beinfected too. It is easier to prevent than to heal like thedoctors said.

Currently we have AVG antivirus installed on every PC.This antivirus is already good enough, it is free, lightapplication with real time protection and definitionupdate is available to be automatically downloadedeveryday. We also are hardening the security withinstalling Spybot to detect Trojan and Adaware todetect Ad ware.

But thousand Viruses are born and evolving everyday. It is impossible for an antivirus to detect all of them, even with everyday update of definition. What we cando is try to prevent them from coming to our PC.

Prevention:

If not really necessary:1. Do not share data via USB with other PC. No

Virus detected does not mean that USB orComputer not infected with virus. Today’svirus trend is they spread via portable datastorage ( USB, external HD, SD card )

2. Do not download un necessary / strange /fancy application from internet (most of freeand fancy application has been injected withad ware or other malicious code).

3. Do not access porn sites or hacking, warez, cracking sites. Believe it or not, just byaccessing them (view only), virus could enteryou pc.

4. Do not use offline / online computer to install/ run un necessary application.

5. Do not open email from someone you do notknow / strange content. Delete ASAP.

Symptoms:1. Computers regularly restart or stop responding

or shutdown.2. Computer become very slow and heavy, CPU

utilization become almost 100%, even thoughyou are doing nothing.

3. Some weird characters or folders or files showup.

4. Can not boot to windows.5. Any other strange behavior on windows.

Cure:1. Scan with Various Antivirus.2. Reinstall windows.

Usually when your computer infected with some deadlyvirus, there nothing you can do other than reinstallingwindows, because most of the time, your antivirus isalready under control of that virus, means you can notuse it anymore and any other mean effort to remove itusing other applications, the virus will know and willshutdown that application immediately

Have a safe journey and send me an email if youhave any input or questions..
