Topics• Smart Buildings Concept
• Opportunities and Challenges for Smart Buildings
• Current Situation in Kazakhstan
• Smart Meter as a Solution for Smart Buildings
• Advantages and Disadvantages of Smart Meter
• Our Plan, Features Offered
Smart Building?
• Current Definition: Any structure which utilize automated processes to automatically, locally or remotely control the building’s operations including heating, ventilation, air conditioning, lighting, security and other systems.
• Implementation of sensors, actuators and microchips, in order to collect data and manage it according to a business functions and services.
• Energy consumption reduction, minimizing environmental impact on building energy management.

Background for Kazakhstan
Current situation of mostof the buildings:
• Not networked
• Not actively monitoredor even optimized
• Have no centralizedcontrol
• Building automation ormanagement systemsare not integrated
Companies implementingbuilding automationbased on foreigntechnologies:
• “Homecontrol”(http://homecontrol.kz)
• “Smarta”(http://smarta.kz)
• “SmartHouse”(http://smart.kci.kz/)

One of the solution to make building smart is Smart Meter implementation.

Smart meter
solution for smart
buildings
• Consumes more time and labor
• Inaccurate
• Slow, costly, and lack in flexibility as well as reliability
A “smart” meter is an electric meter acts as a gateway fortwo-way communications or information exchangebetween the consumer and the utility.
• Measure energy usage with greater detail – more accurate billing.
• Less time consuming and cost effective.
• Provides real time monitoring of electricity uses.
• Remote functioning.
• Energy data to consumer and utility in real time via home display and web based program, as well as special app for smartphones.
Understanding distinctive features of "intelligent" buildings
is very important. "Smart" buildings differ from usual
buildings, so designing process is different as well. Smart
meter is not just an automated meter.
The present system of energy metering as well asbilling in Kazakhstan uses electromechanical andsomewhere digital energy meter (~5M electricitymeters installed)
