The engineering resource library allows predefined objects that are commonly used in mechanical systems to be developed and engineered with safety factors built in the design. Such items as shafts, Cams, Spur gears, bevel gears, worm gears, rack and pinions, sprockets, springs, synchronous pulleys, to bedeveloped using parametric data input by the user.

Reference Standards• ANSI –American National StandardInstitute The engineering resource library allows

various standards which include the unitsof creation and dimensional standards.In this case the shaft can be designed as ANSI inch. Use the popup menu to selectThe proper standard before defining theparameters. Not only does the design get created, but the performance is testedas the design is completed.

The Shaft Parameters• Goal of Shaft DesignThe engineering reference library “shaft design” displays the shaft in section. Each section can have segments added or deleted to thevarious diameters. The goal being to describe each diameter and length of each segment .Various segment typescan be selected by the user. Once the all the sizes are selected the shaft is tested for safety factors, and performance standards.

The shaft is supported at each end because various performance standards areBeing tested as the parameters are input. The load is the amount of weight thatis added to the shaft at a given point. Each section is numbered in the popupmenu as they are added or deleted. The blue outlined section is the active one.

The shaft can be added to or deleted from as determined by design requirements.The “Add” button will create needed sections at each end as specified by the user.The “Delete” button will subtract segments where ever the blue highlighted section is located, or popup menu section number is set on.

The material of the shaft is critical to the calculations that will be output to testedperformance standards. A default weight will be applied as a load. Supports will also be included to get results.
