Today I Learned… Today I learned about Moses and the Ten Com-mandments. Today I learned the sixth commandment. Memory Verse: Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy, and dearly
loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.—Colossians 3:12
Questions to Ask: 1. Read Exodus 34:10. Discuss this verse with your child 2. What is the fourth commandment? 3. What is the fifth commandment? 4. What does it mean to be kind and patient? 5. What is the sixth commandment?
Family Time: Review with your child the memory verse everyday. Reward them and explain to them the importance of knowing God’s word!

Hurting Others
The bible tells us a story about two brothers, Cain and Abel. Cain took care of the sheep and Abel worked the ground (took care of the vegetable garden—hard labor). One day Abel brought his best lamb he had
as a gift for God. God was very happy. Abel brought some crops that he had grown as a gift for the God. But God was not happy with this gift. It was not the best that Cain could have given God.
Cain became angry. Cain tricked Abel to go with him into a field where he thought no one was watching. Cain then hurt Abel, because he was angry with him
and angry that God liked his gift more.
Our hands are very special. They are to be used to praise God, clap to God, pray, help others, hug others;
they are to be used for only doing GOOD things.
When we use our hands to hurt our brother, sister

or friend, that does not make God happy.
Sometimes it is hard to wait for a turn on the swing, but if we are patient it is easier. While we are wait-ing we can play with something else. We need to have
patience.
Sometimes someone might treat us bad or hurt us. We should never do the same in return. We should
tell a grown up what happened right away. We should treat that person nice no matter what they do.
We should have compassion and be gentle.
Sometimes we want a toy that does not belong to us. We should never grab a toy out of anyone’s hand.
We need to ask to play with it first. If they say “no”, we should not get upset. We should just wait our
turn. If we have a toy that someone wants, we should share. We should show kindness.

Sometimes we will make mistakes and get upset. Our mommy, daddy or teacher will have to correct us.
We should never get upset when we are being cor-rected or told what we are not able to do. Our
Mommy, Daddy and Teacher want us to grow up to be good boys and girls. When they correct us it is because they love us. When we are being corrected we must be humble. We must accept our mistake,
apologize and try not to do it again.
God love us very much and he is there to help us. When you feel like you can’t be patient, kind, gentle, or humble, ask God for help. Ask Him to fill your heart with His love. He will answer you and help you
all the time!

Crafts and Ideas: Thumbs Up! (make enough copies for each child) Sorting. Cut out the pictures and have children sort them into
the thumbs up/ down page. Good behavior gets a thumbs up and bad behavior gets a thumbs down.
My Hands! Material:
Paper plates Paint, crayons markers or crayons Yarn wiggle eyes Brads Construction paper or scrapbook paper Poem My hands
Have the child cut create their face on the paper plate. Let them add yarn for hair. Use construction paper or scrapbook paper to create a t-shirt. Glue the poem on the t-shirt. Attach the head to t-shirt. Trace the childs both arms (up to elbow) and hands. Have them cut it out and attach to the t-shirt with brads. As you read the poem the children can move the arms. You can also add a pocket on the T-shirt to hold behavior cards.

Extra Resources: For this lesson you may also want to read the story of Cain and Abel. When talking about murder, for young children I say “hurting” others with our hands. Children this young will make the connection with push-ing, hitting, even speaking bad words and yelling. Re-mind the children that the words tells us that our mouths can bless or harm others. My Hands
My hands are for praying,
My Hands are for praising,
My hands are for hugs and
collecting bugs.
My hands are not for hurting,
My hands are not for pushing,
My hands are for giving away lots of God’s Love.
