when you wedel down the freshly prepared

piste back down to the valley a short while

later, you know: this was only your first

time, not your last.

Look up at those deep blue skies – perfect

weather for a ski tour. Today, you are

planning to tackle the Brunnach route. You

shoulder your skis and take the bus to the

valley station of the Brunnach National

Park cable car line. You strap on your skins

and off you go – a few metres along the

piste and then following the marked route

in the direction of the Schafalpe. For over

an hour, you can bask in the sense of being

surrounded by nothing but untouched na-

ture. “The route up to the mountain station

is breath-taking”, says your tour guide and
