How do we count faster?
Introduction
Ask children the question. When counting pennies or friends in our class, is there a faster way to count them? Use a circle map to list their responses.
Counting by 2’s
• Let a small group of children who wear tennis shoes face their classmates.
• Choose one child to count the shoes aloud.• Then, count again, saying odd numbers softly and the
even numbers loud. For ex. 1(soft sound),2 (loud sound),3 (soft sound), 4 (loud sound),etc.
• Write the numbers 2,4,6,8,10,etc. on the screen.• Children can practice on the 100 chart (counting by 2’s).
This can be color coded to see those even numbers.
