The Core Purpose / Objectives of the Maturity Assessment are to:

• Engage city leadership in a simple assessment process (personal; or small group) that provides a coarse snap-shot of their city’s current state of ‘smartness’

• Provide a valuable tool for the Smart City Leadership Programme

• Help reposition ‘standards’ in eyes of leaders

• Provide a relevant and useful tool that adds rapid value within the BSI Smart City portfolio

• Bring 181 to life (and support its extended use and further development)

Maturity Framework Context

• The assessment model relates to the PAS 181 framework, and overtly cross-references it. The 17-element structure of the PAS 181 model (see annex) has been simplified and augmented for ease of application.

• The model will be included in the new BSI Smart Cities Overview guide that is due for completion and launch in 2015.

• It will also form part of the Smart City Leadership Programme due to be launched in Peterborough next Month
