From the Planning Meeting
A number of ideas came up at the planning meeting on Saturday, 5 November 2016, including (but not
limited to):
Open Houses--Visits

things—the 356SL that took Porsche’s 1st class win at Le Mans in 19512

USS Iowa, San Pedro
1 Outlook 2007, 2010, and 2013. 2 This is not just wishful thinking—Rod Emory has offered to host us. We just need to work out the logistics.

d’Élégance. Sometime AFTER the May Membership Breakfast Meeting we’ll have a special
destination breakfast meeting: we’ll head up Angles Crest to breakfast at Newcomb’s Ranch. We’ll
have details on the timing and starting point soon.

Drive Toward a Cure (The California Adventure) is the
first in a series of events we are
looking to create throughout the
U.S. beginning in 2017 and
potentially expanding into driving
programs in Europe as well. Our
goal -- mix cars and camaraderie –
creating a movement for those that
love cars to partake in memorable driving experiences
while raising funds to benefit Parkinson’s.
The first event will be a simultaneous drive -- the route
from the North will begin at the Blackhawk car
collector museum in Danville, while the Southern drive
will begin at the Petersen Museum in Los Angeles –
and our dual destination will be in the Paso Robles
wine region to enjoy a weekend of drives, competition,
separate wine tasting and wonderful receptions.
Along the way, there will be stops at some of the
world’s most prized car collections that happen to be
in California, including the impressive John Mozart car
collection, ‘special stage’ driving competitions, and
maybe a few extra surprises too.

Porsche hires Disney for Training
From Automotive News, March 25, 2017 @ 12:01 AM by Amy Wilson:
Exciting customers is about to become more than a mission statement at Porsche Cars North America.
The theme will govern a new program to train 5,200 people employed at Porsche’s U.S. dealerships
beginning later in 2017.
As part of the program, which is dubbed Excite, Porsche last month selected the Disney Institute to help
it fine-tune plans and carry out the training. The effort likely will bring all customer-facing dealership
personnel to one of the brand’s two U.S. Porsche Experience Centers.
As another step in this long-term initiative to improve the customer experience, Porsche also is asking
dealers to designate a customer experience manager in their stores. For many dealerships, that is likely
to be a new, stand-alone position.

Edd China Is Leaving Wheeler Dealers Because Velocity Wants To Make the
Show Worse
From Jalopnik, Jason Torchinsky, 21 March 2017, 5:39 PM
Edd’s time with the very popular show is coming to an end, but, true to Edd form, it’s for good reasons.
Edd was the antithesis of the usual
car-reality-show mechanic: where
most shows tended to have
caricatures of loud, arrogant,
tattooed meatheads yelling at
everyone about how this ‘69 GTO had
better [bleeping] be ready by
tomorrow or heads will roll, Edd’s a
calm, wildly capable, good-natured
guy who had respect for all kinds of
cars and was someone you’d actually
like to work with.
It seems that the big reason is that Velocity, who is taking over production of the show, found Edd’s
workshop sequences “too difficult to make.” As Edd said in his statement:
San Gabriel Valley Region PCA Zone 8 2014 Region of the Year
Weekly Update 28 March 2017
sgvr.pca.org 32 of 41 facebook.com/PCA-SGVR
Unfortunately, on Velocity’s first attempt at producing the show they found Wheeler Dealers
“too difficult to make”, “at least in its current format.”
In particular, the detailed and in depth coverage of my fixes in the workshop; what I consider
to be the backbone and USP of the programme, are something Velocity feel should be
reduced. The workshop jobs are certainly the hardest part of the show to make and reducing
their substance and role in the show will save the production considerable time, effort and
therefore money.
However, this new direction is not something I am comfortable with as I feel the corners I was
being asked to cut compromised the quality of my work and would erode my integrity as well
as that of the show, so I have come to the conclusion that my only option is to let Velocity get
on with it, without me.

How Porsche Keeps Mets Fans Coming to the Ballpark
From Fox Business by Matthew Rocco Published March 24, 2017:
The New York Mets have seen ticket sales soar following back-to-back postseason appearances. The club
says new perks and menu items inside Citi Field are also responsible, and more improvements are
coming for the 2017 season.

A Porsche display with branded merchandise is seen inside the Porsche Grille, a fine-dining restaurant located inside the Mets' Citi Field. (FOX Business/Matthew Rocco)
One of the team’s newest sponsors, Porsche, is bringing its high-end flare to the ballpark. The
Volkswagen-owned luxury automaker took over a fine-dining restaurant in the middle of the 2016
season, and Porsche branding is now affixed to Citi Field suites. Select ticket holders will get behind the
wheel on track days during the season.
Porsche’s sponsorship agreement with the Mets last summer came just weeks after the company
reached a deal with the New York Jets. Jacob Harb, vice president, area east at Porsche Cars North
America, said the sponsorships allow the brand to reach new customers in New York, its third-largest
market.
