GET READY FOR somethingmore...
I know you’re getting a lot of college brochures in the mail. When I was in high school, I did too. And sometimes, it felt like everyone was saying the same thing.
Here’s the thing.
Duquesne really is different. And I love it.
I want to tell you why Duquesne was the right choice for me. And it might just be the right choice for you, too.
An experience that will define you.
1
Times may be uncertain, but we are sure of this…
THE DUQUESNE STUDENT EXPERIENCE IS UNLIKE ANY OTHER.
We’re proud to showcase the many opportunities available to our students. As of the June 2020 printing of this publication, we realize that some of these experiences may not be immediately available due to state and federal guidelines related to travel and social distancing. While some activities may be temporarily limited, you’ll still find so many ways to have fun, get involved and discover more about yourself on campus and with your peers and faculty!
this campus
My senior year of high school, I applied to a lot of schools. Nearly a dozen. I wanted to keep my options open.
But as soon as I stepped foot on Duquesne’s campus for a tour, my decision was made. I knew this would be my college home.
Duquesne is this beautiful campus on a hill, overlooking downtown Pittsburgh, South Side and one of the city’s three rivers. And if you take a five-minute walk down the hill (we call it the Bluff), you’re in the middle of everything the city has to offer.
A location that will inspire you.

Home away from home.
This is where I take my favorite class on Tuesdays and Thursdays
Big city life with a small town feel.
From Ariana Grande to the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, entertainment options are endless
The views from Pittsburgh’s riverfront trails are just the best
Market Square has awesome cafés and restaurants
It’s great to be within walking distance of Steelers, Pirates and Pens games
I can walk to an internship right downtown
It’s so great to run into friends walking down A-Walk
I love going to Dukes games and watching my friends play
Mexican, pizza, Starbucks coffee - the Union has my appetite covered
I hit the gym at the Power Center

Duquesne has given me so many opportunities to spread my wings. And one of my favorites has to be the Spring Breakaway course that took me to Paris, France.
With Spring Breakaway classes, you take a course at Duquesne throughout the spring semester, and you travel with your class—including your professor—over spring break.
My class was Travel Writing, so we read and discussed travel essays when we were on campus, and practiced writing, too. Then when we were in Paris, we kept a daily journal that we turned into an extended travel journal when we were back in Pittsburgh.
It was très magnifique!
My Paris Must-Sees:

5What it Means

Spiritus est Qui vivificat. It is the Spirit Who gives life.
ALL ARE WELCOME
HERE.
We’re a Catholic
university, so faith
plays an important
role here. And we
have a very broad
and diverse group of
students who nurture
mind, heart and spirit
in different ways.
A Catholic education in the Spiritan tradition. It’s what we do here. But what does it really mean?
You’ll see the Spiritan tradition alive on campus
and beyond in the way we treat one another, the
way we learn and in how we view the world.
Who we are today has a lot to do with who we were
yesterday. Founded in 1878 by a group of Catholic
missionaries, also known as the Spiritans, to serve
Pittsburgh’s immigrant population, Duquesne
was built on a core set of values that guide us
even now. We believe in building community, in
having a global vision, in promoting high academic
standards and in a commitment to service.
And first and foremost, everyone at Duquesne is
here to make sure you succeed, academically and
throughout life.
Spiritan Campus Ministry
Through Spiritan Campus Ministry you’ll have
all sorts of ways to grow your faith. From
liturgical celebrations and Bible study groups,
to faith-based mission trips and other outreach
opportunities. One-on-one pastoral counseling is
available from lay and ordained campus ministers.

I’ve had a lot of opportunities to feel like I’m making a difference for people right here in the Pittsburgh region.
As an event chair for my sorority’s annual Make-a-Wish Pageant, I’ve helped raise tens of thousands of dollars to help regional kids have their wishes granted.
And freshman year, through one of my core curriculum classes, I worked with the Greater Pittsburgh Literacy Council to help non-native English speakers master the language.

• To Pittsburgh companies to help

Is it Duquesneable?
No matter what you do at
Duquesne, you’ll be driven
by a fundamental question:
That means being willing to take risks.
Being open to all ideas and all people.
Doing the right thing, even when no one’s watching.
Doing more for others and for the world.
Thinking big in every small moment.
And it’ll make a lot more
sense once you get here.

Test-Optional Admission for Business, Liberal Arts, Music and several other majors
For the past several years, Duquesne University has offered a standardized test-optional opportunity for several schools and programs. This was designed for candidates who do not have SAT or ACT scores, or believe their scores do not reflect their academic achievement and ability to be successful at Duquesne. Given the current environment and uncertainty around standardized test availability, additional programs may be moved to test-optional admission. Please visit duq.edu/test-optional for a complete list of eligible schools and programs.
More information, including an application checklist, minimum standardized test scores and deadlines, can be found at duq.edu/apply
