About Wi‐Fi Planner The SonicWall® Wi‐Fi Planner tools simulate wireless deployment with SonicWall wireless products. Creating New Floor Plans allow users to upload, scale, and manage their floor plans. Placing Access Points (APs) on a floor plan allows users automatically or manually place and adjust access points. Viewing options give the user control of layers, devices, radio bands, channels, tools, access point inventories, and heatmap coverage. Exportable reports are available for download in PDF and Word formats.

Before You BeginYou will need the following to access SonicWall Wi‐Fi Planner:
• A computer running supported version of Windows or MacOS
• An active Internet connection
• A MySonicWall.com account
• Beta activation key
System RequirementsSince Wi‐Fi Planner is a cloud service, you only need access to a web browser and an internet connection to access the Wi‐Fi Planner. Based on the operating system you’re using, the following browser levels are supported:
AccessibilitySonicWall Wi‐Fi planner is available via Mysonicwall.com for users that have active SonicPoint support.
To access Wi‐Fi Planner via MySonicWall.com:
1 In a web browser, navigate to MySonicWall.com.
2 Use your credentials to login to your Mysonicwall.com account.
3 Click the Wi‐Fi Planner link to open the Wi‐Fi Planner.

Creating and Managing Wireless Projects
This section describes how to create and manage wireless projects with the SonicWall Wi‐Fi Planner.

Creating a Project
To create a new wireless project:
1 Login to the Wi‐Fi Planner. The home screen appears.
2 Click the NEW PROJECT button, in the top‐right corner, or click the New Project icon to create a
new project. The new project screen appears.
3 In the Name field, type in a descriptive name for this project.
4 In the Country field, type in the name of the country for this project.
5 Click CREATE to save the project and return to the home screen. The new project is added to My Projects.
6 To upload a floor plan, hover the mouse over the project info card and click OPEN PROJECT. The floor plan is uploaded and appears on the list of available projects.
NOTE: Entering a Country applies different Wi‐Fi regulations when the system optimizes Wi‐Fi channels for access point placement.

Managing a Project Managing a wireless project is simple with the SonicWall Wi‐Fi Planner. The management feature gives users the option to view project details, duplicate projects, and delete projects. This section contains the following topics:

Viewing Information About a Wireless Project
To view information about a wireless project:
1 From the Home screen, hover the mouse over each project’s info card to see the following project information:
• Country
• Total number of floor plans
• Total number of access points
Duplicating a Wireless Project
To duplicate a wireless project:
1 From the home screen, hover the mouse over the project card to see available options.
2 Click the duplicate icon. The project is duplicated in the list of available projects.
Deleting a Wireless Project
To delete a wireless project:
1 From the home screen, hover the mouse over the project card to see available options.
2 Click the delete icon.

Searching for a Wireless Project
To search for a wireless project:
1 From the home screen, click the search icon in the top‐right corner.
2 Enter a project name in the search field and click enter to see a list of results.
Starring a Wireless ProjectStarring a favorite wireless project makes it easier to find again later.
To star a wireless project:
1 From the home screen, hover the mouse over the project card to see available options.
2 Click the star icon. The project is marked with a star.
Sorting Wireless ProjectsSorting wireless projects makes it easier to find similar projects.
To sort a wireless project:
1 From the home screen, click the drop‐down menu at the top right side of the screen. A list of sorting options appears.
2 Click on an option from the list of sorting choices. The projects are sorted based off the selected criteria.

Create a Floor Plan
This section describes how to create, scale, and manage a project’s floor plan. You can upload multiple floor plans for your project based on deployment requirements. Floor plans can include areas, floors, and buildings.

Upload a New Floor PlanTo upload a new floor plan:
1 From the home screen, click the OPEN PROJECT button.
The My Projects page appears.
2 Click the upload icon to upload an image of the floor plan. The upload floor plan page appears.
3 In the Name field, type in a descriptive name for the floor plan.
4 Select an image file from your PC or drag and drop an image onto the My Projects page.

5 Click the corner of the blue rectangle and drag it to crop the floor plan.
6 Click APPLY to save the floor plan.
Scale a Floor Plan The Set Scale feature helps you set the floor plan scale for newly created or uploaded floor plans.
To scale a new floor plan:
1 Navigate to Wi‐Fi Planner > My Projects and click on a project to open it. The project page appears.
2 Select a floor plan from the navigation pane on the left. The floor plan screen appears.
NOTE: Image size limitation is up to 10M. Supported image formats include PNG, JPG, and GIF.
NOTE: You must set the scale before you can proceed to setting up an environment or placing access points.
NOTE: Select List or Icon views from the menu for different project viewing options.

3 Click SET SCALE in the top‐left corner, then click and hold the right mouse button to draw a line on floor plan.
4 Use the drop down menu to specify the line length as either "feet" or "meter" units.
5 Click Apply to save the current settings.
6 Click Reset Scale to reset the settings.

Manage a Floor PlanTo manage a new floor plan:
1 Navigate to Wi‐Fi Planner > My Projects and click on a project to open it. The project page appears.
2 Select a floor plan from the navigation pane on the left. The floor plan screen appears.
3 To rename a floor plan, right‐click a floor plan and select Rename.
4 To duplicate a floor plan, right‐click a floor plan and select Duplicate.
5 To delete a floor plan, right‐click a floor plan and select Delete.

Configuring a Floor Plan Environment
After you scale the floor plan, you can resize it to accurately reflect the original space. This section describes how to configure Wi‐Fi zones, setup environmental obstacles, and specify area types on a floor plan.

To identify Wi‐Fi Coverage Zones:
1 Navigate to Wi‐Fi Planner > My Projects and click on a project to open it. The project page appears.
2 Select a floor plan from the navigation pane on the left. The floor plan screen appears.
3 Specify areas for Wi‐Fi coverage by clicking + Wi‐Fi Coverage Zone.
4 Click and hold the right mouse button to draw a rectangle area on the floor plan. The specified area is highlighted in blue and the Add Wi‐Fi coverage zone button appears.

Wi‐Fi Exclusion Zones
To identify Wi‐Fi Exclusion Zones:
1 Navigate to Wi‐Fi Planner > My Projects and click on a project to open it. The project page appears.
2 Select a floor plan from the navigation pane on the left. The floor plan screen appears.
3 Specify areas for Wi‐Fi access point exclusion by clicking ‐ Wi‐Fi Exclusion Zone.
4 Click and hold the right mouse button to draw a rectangle area on the floor plan. The specified area is highlighted in blue and the Add Wi‐Fi Exclusion zone button appears.
5 Click Done to save the Wi‐Fi exclusion zone. The specified area is saved as a Wi‐Fi exclusion zone.
Setup Environment ObstaclesDifferent interior textures and materials have different impacts on constricting Wi‐Fi signals. SonicWall Wi‐Fi Planner has configurations for environment obstacles.
To setup environment obstacles:
1 Navigate to Wi‐Fi Planner > My Projects and click on a project to open it. The project page appears.
2 Select a floor plan from the navigation pane on the left. The floor plan screen appears.

3 Click Obstacle and select a specific obstacle type from the drop‐down menu.
4 Click and hold any point on floor plan to draw obstacle line.
Specify a Floor Plan Area TypeSonicWall Wi‐Fi Planner has the ability to specify area types on a floor plan. Different types of areas have different attenuation impacts on Wi‐Fi signals.
To specify a specific floor plan area type:
1 Navigate to Wi‐Fi Planner > My Projects and click on a project to open it. The project page appears.
2 Select a floor plan from the navigation pane on the left. The floor plan screen appears.
3 Click Area and select a type of space and layout from the drop‐down menu.

Placing Access Points on a Floor Plan
The SonicWall Wi‐Fi Planner provides several options for adding access points to a floor plan. If you are not familiar with wireless deployment, there is an intelligent algorithm to place access points on floor plan without channel conflict, reflect zone, obstacle and area settings. The Access Point Advisor feature is an easy to use tool that automatically places access points on your floor plan. After using the Access Point Advisor auto‐placement feature, you can add more access points, and adjust access point locations and parameters to optimize deployment.

4 Configure parameters for access point auto‐placement as follows:
• Access Point Model: Specify access point model for auto‐placement.
• Radio: Specify radio band for auto‐placement.
• Transmit Power: Specify access point transmit power to run auto‐placement.

5 Click RUN to view the Access Point Advisor’s auto‐placement results.
Manually Add Access Points
To manually add access points:
1 Navigate to Wi‐Fi Planner > My Projects and click on a project to open it. The project page appears.
2 Select a floor plan from the navigation pane on the left. The floor plan screen appears.
3 Click Place Manually.
The Add Access Point pop‐up window appears.
4 Click on the INDOOR or OUTDOOR tab to see a list of available devices.
5 Click on a specific model, then click ADD. The access point is manually added to the floor plan. See Adjust Access Point Locations and Parameters for more information on how to manually adjust the access point.

Adjust Access Point Locations and ParametersWi‐Fi planner access point locations and parameters are adjustable. You can move, delete, or configure parameters as needed.

Move an Access Point
To move an access point on a floor plan:
1 Navigate to Wi‐Fi Planner > My Projects and click on a project to open it. The project page appears.
2 Select a floor plan from the navigation pane on the left. The floor plan screen appears.
3 Click the Access Point icon and drag it to any location on the floor plan. The access point is placed on the floor plan at the indicated location.
Delete an Access Point
To delete an access point on a floor plan:
1 Navigate to Wi‐Fi Planner > My Projects and click on a project to open it. The project page appears.
2 Select a floor plan from the navigation pane on the left. The floor plan screen appears.
3 Click on an access point then click the Delete icon in the upper‐right corner. The access point is deleted from the floor plan.
Remove All Access Points
To remove all access points:
1 Navigate to Wi‐Fi Planner > My Projects and click on a project to open it. The project page appears.
2 Select a floor plan from the navigation pane on the left. The floor plan screen appears.
3 Click on the floor plan and select Remove all Access Points. A confirmation pop‐up appears.

4 Click Yes to remove all access points.
Save Current View of Floor Plan Access Points
To save a current view of floor plan access points:
1 Navigate to Wi‐Fi Planner > My Projects and click on a project to open it. The project page appears.
2 Select a floor plan from the navigation pane on the left. The floor plan screen appears.
3 Click Add Access Point and use the manual or automatic features to add access points.
4 Click Save As to save the current view of the floor plan access points.
5 Enter a descriptive name for the access point floor plan then click Save. The current floor plan view of the access point locations is saved.
Change Access Point Parameters
To change access point parameters:
1 Navigate to Wi‐Fi Planner > My Projects and click on a project to open it. The project page appears.
2 Select a floor plan from the navigation pane on the left. The floor plan screen appears.

3 Double click on the Access Point icon. The Access Point pop‐up window appears.
4 Select one of the following tabs to configure options in the drop‐down menus:
• Access Point Property:
• 2.4G Enable/ Disable toggle

• Radio Pattern:
• Displays vertical E‐Plane radio patterns for 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands

Auto‐Channel Adjustment Wi‐Fi Planner can move access points to different locations or manually add access points on a floor plan after running the Access Point Advisor (auto‐placement) option. Wi‐Fi Planner gives you the option to perform an Auto Channel adjustment to avoid any channel conflicts.
To perform an Auto Channel adjustment:
1 Navigate to Wi‐Fi Planner > My Projects and click on a project to open it. The project page appears.
2 Select a floor plan from the navigation pane on the left. The floor plan screen appears.
3 Click Auto Channel to add access points on a floor plan. Wi‐Fi Planner assigns each access point to the best channel.

Auto‐Position Adjustment Wi‐Fi Planner auto‐position adjustment feature optimizes Wi‐Fi coverage by adjusting access points whenever they are added to a floor plan.
To perform auto‐position adjustment:
1 Navigate to Wi‐Fi Planner > My Projects and click on a project to open it. The project page appears.
2 Select a floor plan from the navigation pane on the left. The floor plan screen appears.
3 Click the Site Optimizer button. Wi‐Fi Planner re‐calculates access point locations based on all current settings. A heatmap appears identifying the adjusted access point status.

Floor Plan Viewing Options
This section describes how to configure floor plan viewing options for object layers, device information, radio bands, channels, and the ruler tool.

Turn Object Layers On/OffWi‐Fi Planner object layers are configurable. As you add different types of environment objects to a floor plan, you may want to turn layers on or off. Sometimes it is easier to manipulate an object by turning a particular layer on or off.
To turn object layers On/Off:
1 Navigate to Wi‐Fi Planner > My Projects and click on a project to open it. The project page appears.
2 Select a floor plan from the navigation pane on the left. The floor plan screen appears.
3 Click the Layer button. The layer drop‐down menu appears.
4 Click the “eye” icon next to a Layer to turn the layer on or off.

View Device Information Each access point placed on a floor plan has several options for viewing device information.
To view access point device information:
1 Navigate to Wi‐Fi Planner > My Projects and click on a project to open it. The project page appears.
2 Select a floor plan from the navigation pane on the left. The floor plan screen appears.
3 Click the Access Point button. The Access Point drop‐down menu displays.
4 Click an option from the pop‐up menu. The device information displays next to the access point icon.
Switch Radio Bands When floor plan access point placement is completed, you can switch to different radio bands to display different heatmap results.
To switch radio bands:
1 Navigate to Wi‐Fi Planner > My Projects and click on a project to open it. The project page appears.
2 Select a floor plan from the navigation pane on the left. The floor plan screen appears.
3 Click the Band radio button and select either 2.4G or 5G.

Specify a Radio Channel When floor plan access point placement is completed, you can specify different radio channels to view different heatmap results.
To specify a radio channel:
1 Navigate to Wi‐Fi Planner > My Projects and click on a project to open it. The project page appears.
2 Select a floor plan from the navigation pane on the left. The floor plan screen appears.
3 Click the Channel button. The Channel drop‐down menu appears.
4 Select a radio channel from the drop‐down menu.
Ruler Tool The Ruler is a handy tool that determines the actual distance of a planned environment.
To use the Ruler tool:
1 Navigate to Wi‐Fi Planner > My Projects and click on a project to open it. The project page appears.
2 Select a floor plan from the navigation pane on the left. The floor plan screen appears.
3 Click Ruler. The ruler icon appears.
4 Click and hold the right mouse button, to draw a line across the desired area of the floor plan.

• Radio Band: Working radio on access point
• Channel: Current channel access point is working on
• Channel Size: Current access point channel size
• Power: Current transmission power of access point
• Location: Default page is blank so you can comment on each access point, for use as an installation cheat sheet
Searching the Floor Plan Access Point Inventory
To Search the floor plan access point inventory:
1 Navigate to Wi‐Fi Planner > My Projects and click on a project to open it. The project page appears.
2 Select a floor plan from the navigation pane on the left. The floor plan screen appears.
3 Click the Inventory icon. The Inventory pop‐up menu appears.
4 Click on the search icon and enter a search term. Hit enter to view the results.
Remove an Access Point from the Inventory
To remove an access point from the Floor Plan Access Point Inventory:
1 Navigate to Wi‐Fi Planner > My Projects and click on a project to open it. The project page appears.
2 Select a floor plan from the navigation pane on the left. The floor plan screen appears.
3 Click the Inventory icon. The Inventory pop‐up menu appears.
4 Click the checkbox next to an access point to select it.
5 Click REMOVE. The access point is deleted.

Copy an Access Point from the Inventory
To copy an access point:
1 Navigate to Wi‐Fi Planner > My Projects and click on a project to open it. The project page appears.

3 Click the checkbox next to an access point to select it.
4 Click COPY TO CLIPBOARD. The access point is copied to the clipboard.
