InFigure3,theIBMStorwizeV5030systemcameinat#9with354IOPS/diskdrive.Ithad240300GB15KRPMdiskdriveswith64GBofDRAMmemoryandthediskswereSASattachedtothetwocontrollers.Asyoumayrecall,wementionedtheIBMStorwizeV5030asthefirstV3submissioninourlastreportbutatthetimehadnotincorporateditintoour(V1)performanceanalysis,wedosonow.Again,theSPC-1V3benchmarkdoeslargerfixedblockIOs(8KBvs4KB)whichmightbeaslightdisadvantagebutprobablyisn’tmeasurableatthisscale.It’sunusualtoseeanewdisk-onlySPC-1submission,especiallyfromamajorvendor(IBM).It’salmostasiftheynolongerwanttoeventalkofdisk-onlystorageanymore.Andyetwebelieve,there’sstillroomforperformanceimprovementevenindisk-onlystorage,letalonehybridsystems.

SignificanceForthemoment,afterreviewingboththeV3andV1specificationforSPC-1wehaveconcludedtojustincorporatethembothintothesameSPC-1analysis.It’sunclearwhetherSPChasstoppedacceptingnewsubmissionswithSPC-1V1.WereservetherighttosplitV3submissionsoutifwedeterminethattheV3andV1workloadsaredifferentenoughtowarranttheirseparation.AFAsystemscontinuetheirmarchtodominatingLRTandnowIOPStoptenpositions.ThereremainsonlyonehybridstoragesystemleftintheIOPStoptenbutit’sbeingslowlypushedoffbyallthenewAFAstoragesystemperformance.Asalways,suggestionsonhowtoimproveanyofourperformanceanalysesarewelcomed.Additionally,ifyouareinterestedinmoreblockstorageperformanceinformation,checkoutourrecentlyupdated(November2016),SANStorageBuyingGuideavailableforpurchasefromourwebsite4.IntheSANStorageBuyingGuidewenowprovidetop30resultsforsomeofourSPCperformancechartsandnew,SCIderived,OLTP,ThroughputandEmailChampionsCharts™forenterprise,all-flash,mid-rangeandSMBclassSANstoragesystems.
