Pro j ects/Fu n ding:
1. 'Flexsensotronics '- Project under Marie Curie fh Framework (PCOFUND-GA-2008-226070).
Project Title - Flexible Sensors and Electronic Systems for Large Areas.Host lnstitute - Fondazione Bruno Kesseler, Trento, ltaly.
Funding Agency - European Commission and Autonomous Province of Trento, ltaly.
Project Duration - 3 Years (201 O -2013)Project Goal - This project aims to develop mechanically flexible sensors and electronic systems that
will be useful for application areas like wearable electronics, electronic skin, prosthesis and many more.
TFTs (Thin Film Transistors), with and without inherent sensing capabilities, will be developed andintegrated on a large area to obtain 'electronic skin' like structures. Developing TFTs with inherent
sensing capability will offer many practical advantages such as, sensing and partially processing at
same site - as in humans, compact size, distributed computing etc. Such TFTs will be developed using
the approach adopted for POSFET (Piezoelectric Oxide Semiconductor FET) touch sensing devices.
Electronic devices needed for large area integration will be fabricated from conventional bulk wafers
through lithographic patteming and etching techniques and transfer printing on to flexible/plastic
substrates (e.g. Polyimide), using elastomeric stamps as transfer elements. An attractive attribute of this
approach is that it uses well-developed silicon wafer based circuit technology and thus offers immediate
opportunities for fabricating flexible electronic devices from the inorganic materials currently used in
microelectronics.
2. 'ROBOSKIN' - European Union Projed (ICT-FP7-231500)
Project Title - Skin-Based Technologies and Capabilities for Safe, Autonomous and Interactive RobotsPartners - University of Genoa, ltaly; Italian Institute of Technology, Genoa, ltaly; University of
Caliagri, ltaly; EPFL, Switzerland; University ofHertfordshire, U.K.; and University ofNewport, U.K.
