ATHLETIC BRAND DESIGN • VOLUME I

“Once a man has made a commitment to a way of life, he puts the greatest strength in the world behind him. It’s something we call heart power. Once a man has made this commitment, nothing will stop him short of success.”

Vince Lombardi

Duke UniversityDURHAM, NORTH CAROLINA

Duke Basketball is one of the most storied programs in NCAA history with three National Championships, multiple ACC Championship seasons and a legendary coach.

The “Michael W. Krzyzewski Center”– Dedicated to Academic and Athletic Excellence – is the finest of its kind in the country. The facility houses two indoor practice courts, weight rooms, student meeting and studying rooms, tutor spaces and team dining and donor event facilities. It is a central meeting place for all 600+ Duke student-athletes and connects to Cameron Indoor via a signature experience tunnel.

The Duke Basketball Museum and Hall of Fame opened in the Fall of 2010. Located in the Schwartz Butters Athletic Center, adjacent to Cameron Indoor Stadium, the 6,600 square foot space is recreated to emulate the successful Duke Basketball program and all of Duke Athletics. Duke Basketball’s unparalleled success is archived with a multitude of trophy displays, including a ring of the four title trophies, interactive videos and memorabilia, which are all on display for the first time under one roof. Inside the museum are great photo opportunities that put you in the middle of two iconic areas of Duke Basketball - the tent city known as Krzyzewskiville and their famous fans, the Cameron Crazies. Residing next to the Museum is the newly located Duke Athletics Hall of Fame, featuring portraits of its Hall of Fame Inductee members and celebrating all of Duke’s 26 intercollegiate sports. Both the museum and Hall of Fame are self-guided experiences.

University of Wisconsin AthleticsMADISON, WISCONSIN

The University of Wisconsin has changed the way athletic departments think about their facilities. Understanding the competitive nature of the new-century recruiting game and the critical element of presenting one voice to student-athletes, they retained ZEBRADOG to design and implement a comprehensive facility brand integration plan in 2002.

ZD set to work on a multi-year plan, starting with the redevelopment of Camp Randall Stadium. Originally a training facility for the Union Army’s 32nd Red Arrow Division during the Civil War, it became the northern-most Confederate prisoner of war camp in 1863, housing over 500 prisoners. In 1917, Camp Randall became home to the Wisconsin Badger football team.

We leveraged that time-honored tradition, weaving it into a visual brand plan that spans the facility campus covering the Crew House, Kohl Center, Heritage Hall, University Ridge Golf Course, student academic centers, hockey and basketball practice facilities and athletic offices.

Unique to the NCAA, the University of Wisconsin vision is unmistakable.

Lambeau FieldGREEN BAY, WISCONSIN

Long considered the crown jewel of the National Football League, Lambeau Field is the birthplace of legends. ZEBRADOG was retained to create the visual story of this hallowed ground, infusing it into signature restaurants, the Hall of Fame, team stores, locker rooms, team meeting rooms and sponsorship zones throughout the $295 million project.

To date, Lambeau Field is the most significant renovation to come to life in professional football. Its enormous financial success story is due to the vision of President Bob Harlan, the citizens of Green Bay and the many professionals who dedicated a part of their lives so that professional football would always have a true home.

Iowa State UniversityAMES, IOWA

The Iowa State Cyclones retained ZEBRADOG to develop a signature visual brand plan for the renovation of Jack Trice Stadium. Elements include a comprehensive wayfinding system that will ultimately move to all athletic facilities on campus, a club level theme plan, permanent and gameday banner programs, concession theming and major entry features. ZD will be facilitating the percentage for public art requirement for this state facility by directing the design of The Jack Trice Plaza on the second level concourse.

Go Cyclones!

Following the successful Phase I football renovation of Jack Trice Stadium, a new basketball facility was planned, constructed and opened to new recruits and players fall of 2009. The donor funded facility vastly improves the recruiting experience for players and staff, while enhancing the practice, workouts and day-to-day administration of both Men’s and Women’s ISTATE basketball programs. The facility features two separate practice gyms, new administration area for head coaches, assistants and staff, world-class video room, lockerrooms for players and also coaches lockerrooms, lounges for players and separate lounges for coaches, weight room, card conditioning room, rehab/training rooms, academic study areas, conference rooms, donor recognition and event space. ZEBRADOG weaved the newly branded ISTATE logo to tell their unique story of loyalty, success, tradition, pride and legacy of ISTATE Cyclone basketball within their new contemporary amenities in Sukup practice facility.

TCF Bank StadiumMINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA

ZEBRADOG developed a signature identity plan for TCF Bank as they inked a $35 million dollar naming rights sponsorship with the University of Minnesota. TCF Bank Stadium is the new $250 million flagship facility for Golden Gopher Football. It will put the Gophers back on campus and secure the future of this ancient Big 10 program for generations to come.

Florida International UniversityMIAMI, FLORIDA

“RORY” the Golden Panther is back! The largest public university in Florida retained ZEBRADOG to develop a new mascot for their athletic department. We brought Rory to life all over campus in team stores, banners, field graphics, websites and more.

The Dallas Cowboys ExperienceDALLAS, TEXAS

In 2010, Jerry Jones and his Dallas Cowboys will take the field in the new Cowboys Stadium. The $1.5 billion dollar facility, its design and the “non-gameday” Cowboy experiences within the stadium will simply blow you away. The game experience will be the most sophisticated, technologically-advanced, spectacular sporting event you can attend. The new stadium will be living proof that everything really is bigger in Texas.

Jack Rouse Associates asked ZD to develop the graphic design and media interface designs for The Dallas Cowboy Experience, an interactive museum inside the stadium.

You will have to see this in person to believe it.

Vanderbilt UniversityNASHVILLE, TENNESSEE

Vanderbilt University Athletics let a national RFP seeking a firm to transform it’s recruiting and fan experiences for their Division One SEC Conference leading Men’s Baseball program. ZEBRADOG was selected and we have begun the three year process to “up” the experience. After a College World Series debut in 2010, The Commodores have significant momentum and signed the 2nd best rated freshman recruiting class in 2011. We are developing a signature multi-touch digital teaching tool for Coach Tim Corbin, integrating aspirational imagery throughout and building a “Commitment Table” for all future recruits to participate in. Watch for Vandy to be in the top 5 programs in the Nation very soon.

The Wildcats asked us to develop some concepts of applied graphics to their football stadium to further enhance the brand and the fan experience. We were able to turn these concepts around 24 hours after the phone call.

Madison Square GardenNEW YORK, NEW YORK

ZEBRADOG designed and programmed the new corridor leading to the Basketball and Hockey locker rooms at the redeveloped Madison Square Garden. The 525 foot windowless hallway will come alive with over 70 years of Rangers and Knicks leaders and traditions. This will also serve as the walkway every performer who plays at The Garden will experience.
