St Francis of Assisi, Parkview

Diocese of Johannesburg

Anglican Church of Southern Africa

28 October 2018

TWENTY-THIRD SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST

Month of St Francis

Merciful Lord,

you heard the cry of the blind beggar when others would have silenced him: give us courage to be persistent in prayer, to ask

plainly what we need, and to follow where you lead; for you live and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever

and ever.

Amen

THE PRAYERS OF THE CHURCH

PRAYERS FOR THE CHURCH

We pray for Church in the Province of the West Indies. We pray for Steve our Bishop and our Diocese; for Thabo our Metropolitan and the Anglican Church of Southern Africa; for Justin of Canterbury and the Anglican Communion.

PRAYER FOR THE WORLD

Healing God, we think this week of the communities left in ruins as a result of war. We pray especially for the Middle East in this regard. We pray for the healing and rebuilding of these communities. We think of our country and we pray for your healing grace and courage to mend the misuse and abuse of common resources. Healing God, we lift up this community and all who worship here: our clergy, wardens, council, office staff, parishioners and visitors. Guide us as family, friends and echoes of Your breath which started it all. Amen

THE WORK OF THE CHURCH

MONTH OF ST FRANCIS

“Start by doing what is necessary, then what is possible, and suddenly you are doing the impossible,” said St Francis. He had a gift for understanding that it is in action, in conscious doing, that we really live out the love of God in the world. Francis believed that above all else each day offered an opportunity to be present to the call of God on our time, resources and how we live in community. We are the embodiment of God's work, possibility and image in the world. Francis also understood that the world was God's gift to us shared through creation with great particularity and joy. Let's be especially open to all this might mean for us this October!

COMMEMORATION OF THE FAITHFUL DEPARTEDForms are available at the back of the church for you to fill in if you wish to have family members and loved ones remembered at the service on Friday November 2, 7:00 am. Remember that the Year’s Mind List is constituted from the names that are on these forms. Please bring completed forms to the Sunday services or to the church office before October 28th.
