Standard Gate Valve Installation ManualUNPACKING KJLC GATE VALVE

Inspecttheshippingcontainerbeforeunpackingtolookfordamagethatcouldhaveoccurredduringtransit.Anyvisibledamageshouldbereportedtothetransportationcompanyimmediately.Afteryouhavethisvisualinspection,removethevalvefromtheshippingcontainer.Makesuretheflangefacesarefreeofanyscratchesandthatthereisnotanyobviousdamagetotheactuatorassemblyofvalvebody.

Makesuretonotethevalvesmodelnumberandserialnumberduringtheunpackingprocess.Themodelnumberandserialnumberwillneedtobeprovidedwhenpurchasingreplacementparts.

PRE-INSTALLATION

Determinethatthegatevalveanditsplumbingisadequatelysupportedwheninstalledinthevacuumsystem.Ifagatevalveisnotadequatelysupported,thiscouldpreventthegatevalvefromoperatingandsealingcorrectly.Besurethatallmatingflangesareinlineandparalleltominimizestrainingonjointsandvalvebody.

Topreparethevalveforinstallation,removetheflangecoversandwipetheflangesdownwithalintfreedryclothorwipe.Duringinstallationbecarefulnottodamagethesealingsurfaceinanyway.Anydamagetothesealingsurfacewillaffectitssealingcapabilities.

WARNING:Neverinsertyourhandsorobjectsintheportofagatevalve.Seriousbodilyinjuriesanddamageofthevalvewilloccur.

INSTALLATION

Itisrecommendedthatthegatevalveisinstalledwiththegateseal(carriageside)facingtowardthechamber(vacuumside).Mountingthevalveinthisconfigurationwilleliminatethepumpdownofthevalvebody.Thegatevalvemaybemountedineitheraverticalorhorizontalposition.

IMPORTANT:Neveruseboltsthatarelongerthanthecombinedwidthofbothmatingflanges.Itisrecommendedthatboltsareatleast_”(6.4mm)shorterthanthecombinedthicknessofbothmatingflanges.

Bolt Tightening Sequence

Toavoiddamagingthevalvebodyandflanges,firstfingertightensallflangebolts.Next,usingthepropertighteningsequence,tightenboltstohalfthetorquerequired.Toproperlytightenthebolts,tightenoneandthentightenthebolt180degreesacrossfromit.Continuethisprocessuntilalltheboltsaretightened.Lastly,tightentotherecommendedtorquespecificationusingthepropertighteningtechnique.Aflangeissufficientlytightenedwhentheflangefacestouch.

Itispossiblethatthevalvebodycansufferdamagebytheuseofimproperlengthboltsorfromtheovertorquingofthebolts.Tobesurethevalvebodyisnotdamagedpleasemakesurethatthecorrectlengthboltsareusedandthetorquespecsintheabovediagramareused.

IMPORTANT: Beforeinstallingflangebolts,itisrecommendtoapplyalightcoatinganti-seize(non-galling,hightemperaturegrease)tothethreadsofthebolts.

WARNING: Neverplacehandsoranyotherobjectsintothegatevalve.Seriousinjuryandvalvedamagewilloccur.

PNEUMATIC ACTUATION: Connectregulatedcompressedairsupplytothegatevalve.UseTeflontapeonthethreadstoensureleakproofconnections.KJLCrecommendsusinganairfilterintheairlinesystem.Pleaserefertotheinformationlocatedonthesolenoidforthecorrectvoltageneededwhenconnectingtheelectricalservice.Checkthevalveportforanythingthatcouldbeobstructingthevalvesperformance.

Supply60-80psigofairtothevalve.Forproperperformancethevalveneedsaminimumof60psigofairforoperation.Ifmorethan80psigofairissupplied,seriousdamageofthevalvemayoccur.DO NOT EXCEED 80PSIG.

IMPORTANT:Anairregulatormustbeusedtoconfirmthatthevalveisactuatingproperly.

Position Indicators

PositionindicatorswitchesarepresetandanLEDindicatorwillilluminatewhenthevalveisfullyopenorfullyclosed.

PNEUMATIC VALVE

GENERAL SOLENOID INFORMATION

A1/8-inchported,4-way,singlesolenoid,2position/springreturngeneralpurpose,directactingsolenoids.Thesolenoidforagatevalveistypicallysetforanormallyclosedposition.

When410solenoidsareusedwithvacuum,usethelargestpossibletubingsizeandtheminimumtubinglengthforthesolenoidsoptimumperformance.Pleasenotethatbeforeconnectingfittingsandtubingremoveallforeignmaterialfromthecomponents.Ifyouareusingasealant,takeextracautionthatnosealantentersthesolenoidvalve.Thiscouldcausemalfunctionand/orleakagetothesolenoids.

CAUTION:Compressedairispowerfulandcanbedangerous.Beforeremovingacomponentfromanairlineorsystem,alwaysdisconnecttheairsupplyandvent(exhaust)theairlinecompletely.Neverattempttoconstruct,operate,orserviceanythingusingcompressedairunlessyouhavebeenproperlytrainedtodoso.Failuretocomplywiththiswarningcouldresultinseriousorfatalinjuries.

SOLENOID INSTALLATION

Solenoidvalvescanbemountedinorientation(position)inmostenvironments.410solenoidvalvesfeatureaClassBinsulationsystemandmoldedcoilforambienttemperaturesfrom32˚Fto125˚F(0˚Cto50˚C).

Ifthevalvedoesnotfunction(onpneumaticvalve)whenelectricityissuppliedcheckthevalvefunctionusingthesolenoidsmanualoverride.Ifthevalvefunctionswhenmanuallyactuated,checkthelimevoltagetodetermineifthesolenoidvalveisreceivingthecorrectvoltage.Ifthevoltagesarecorrect,nextchecktheairpressuregoingtothevalve.Makesurethatthevalveisreceiving60-80psig.Besurethattherearenoairlineblockagesordefectiveorblockedfittings.IfthefailscontinuestofailafterfollowingthesestepspleasecontactKJLC.
