Infrastructure Atlas – Web-GIS-application
Web-GIS-application is online since december 2012
mapping tool (software) was developed in collaboration withan external service provider
containing geoinformation of infrastructure, that may beshared while broadband networks are expanded

Infrastructure Atlas – Web-GIS-application
access and security
access only:
for authorised users (adminstrative units, networkoperators, consultancy firms)
project-related (concerning the area, using administrativeareas)
time-limited (generally three months)
using strong authentication for log-in procedure (user name, password and PIN)

functions of the Web-GIS-application
analyse tools: identify infrastructures
for a single infrastructure: type, sub-type, owner andcontact details of the relevant infrastructure is listed
for an area: owners and contact details for all relevantinfrastructures are listed (see below)

Infrastructure Atlas – Web-GIS-application
functions of the Web-GIS-application
edit function
small companys or muncipalities without GIS are able to edittheir infrastructure directly at the web-gis-application
using points or polylines for different infrastructure types
edited and transfered data will be checked by anadministrator of the Federal Network Agency

access to database:
directly: only FNA
indirecly: authorised user

Lessons learned
challenges
high administration effort forcollection and processing ofdata
voluntary provision of data isrunning into limits(incomplete database)
availability and quality ofprovided geodata (datas arecollected directly from theinfrastructure owners)
illustrating facilities of data(max. resolution 1:30.000,generalization)
until now no information onavailable capacity ofinfrastructure

12
Lessons learned
strenghts
implementation is imbedded in national strategy, politicalsupport
legal basis (§ 77a Abs. 3 TKG), obligation to provide datato the FNA
information on geographical location of the infrastructure isessential for users
user-friendly mapping tool

13
Lessons learned - keywords
Confidentiality
Company and business secrets demand high safetymeasures
Completeness
Get all relevant information
Intersectoral
Pool different industry sectors
Usability
Should be easy to use
