Facts & Figures

• Hydrogen Buses• Each bus contains around 50kg of hydrogen• Can travel around 260miles on a full tank• Positive feedback from drivers/ passengers so far

• Refuelling Station• Can produce around 360kg of hydrogen per day• 420kgs of storage• Refuel a bus in less than 10minutes

FCH-JU Commercialisation Study

• Aims to deploy 500 -1,000 buses across Europe by 2020;

• Working together across Europe to drive down prices; 

• Develop four viable business cases across Europe

What next• Aberdeen Hydrogen Bus Project 

–  Operations until 2019

• Second refuelling station – capable of refuelling all hydrogen vehicle types (300 & 700bar)– accessible to the public

• Work with local partners and car manufacturers to deploy first generation vehicles

• Ensure a second major FCB deployment from 2018• Work with other regions to seed a Scottish refuelling network linking to 

the work of the UK H2 Mobility programme.

Longer Term Actions

• Hydrogen production & distribution options– Support for expanding renewables deployments through 

strengthening local grid– Potential for stranded wind to supply hydrogen– Opportunities for small scale local production & use

• Supply chain development– Through operation of H2 production, distribution & refuelling 

infrastructure
