Stowe Sharks (SocS) Definition A Stowe Lion (or ‘All Lion’) is a Stoic that represents a Lion Society Sport at 1st Team Level for a complete season (Academic Term). Stoics that represent two Lion sports is a ‘Two times all Lion’ , ‘Three times all Lion’, etc. For Coldstream Cup recognition Stoics must participate in 2/3 activities. SocS stands for ‘Lion Society Sport’. 1st Team Captains of these society sports are also referred to as SocS (‘socks’) together they committee the society and its movement. Initial Lion Society Sports (SocS) & Captains;
Basketball Sadiq Abbagana (all lion) Cricket Ben Duckett (three times all lion)
Hockey TBD Rugby Oscar Page (two times all lion)
Rowing Fred Wheeler (two times all lion) Swimming Harry Warden (two times all lion)
Coldstream Cup TBD (2012 Winning Captain) As before Masters in Charge elects captains. They receive a pair of custom SocS tracksuit bottoms and the Lions Cardigan as seen under ‘Lion Mascot’. (Possibility of a SocS tie) Lions Mascot
A school mascot will be acquired through fundraising, which, along with the logo, will become the face or symbol of Stowe sport elitism. Volunteers have been recognised who will rota the mascot parading duties alongside major lions events at home and perhaps at major away matches such as the Daily Mail Cup, Rowing Nationals, etc.
SOCIETY SPORTS
The cardigan was originally designed for Stowe’s 1st IV rowing crew & 1st Singles (Origin behind ‘Sharks’ which was reinstated ‘Lions’). It will become the school mascot’s uniform and available for purchase by members of SocS (possibility cardigans will be available to ‘All Lions’ as well -‐ TBD) SocS Cup
The SocS Cup will be a cup awarded at Stowe Speech Day by a current Society Captain. The cup, unofficially a ‘House Cup’, will average house merit league tables, inter-‐house sport leagues and Coldstream Cup rankings. However no-‐works, defaulters and sanctions discredit house point averages. A member of SocS will update the cup’s league board every 6 weeks with current point standings. The board will likely be located on the pin board outside the school deputies offices. (We are looking at some other cup designs all of which have a height of about 22 inches and are made of stainless steel.)
Costs The overall project will cost around £400 to £600, which we aim to raise through fundraising. Estimate £150/175 for the Shark Mascot and XXL Sharks Cardigan and a further £400 to £500 for the custom SocS Cup and engraving. Conclusion We believe the project will promote sport at Stowe. People will be encouraged to earn the ‘All Lion’ title and more than likely be encouraged to exceed within other sports. Rugby and Basketball players out of season may aspire to be Rowers or Swimmers in the summer seasons. Likewise we may see Beaglers with a hidden talent for Cricket. Making the sports work together to maximise seasonal results. Stowe being a reasonably new school lacks any form of real tradition. (Eton for example have ‘POP’ society which is ultimately Eton’s popular athletes.) We believe that this can evolve to become a generational tradition. Once an ‘All Lion’ always an ‘All Lion’ The SocS cup promotes hard work on and off the field. Averaging academics with sports gives a sense of worth to that geography merit or inter-‐house match result.

Stowe Lions (SocS) Twitter The account was originally set up for the benefit of StoweRowing.co.uk however it has recently been converted to accommodate all Lion Sports. SocS captains will be the only ones to have access to this account via mobile phones. They will tweet their teams training progress, match results, tour reports and all things lions. The use of hashtags ‘#’ will be used by followers to identify sports. (For example; Stowe Rugby tweet ends with a #StoweRugby) The possibility of a website will also be looked into with a partnership with Vividas that will also Lions to be broadcasted live. (N.B. Cheerleaders would be awesome…)
