Central govt. may appoint officer with requisite designation to look after the Protection of Environment.

Officers shall be the subject to govt. control and its direction.

Avoidance may lead to -closure, Prohibition, or regulation of industry. - stoppage or regulation of the supply

of Electricity

Court can take cognisance of offences only if Central govt. Complaints

Civil court cannot entertain suit against Central Govt.

If industries does not agree with directions,

it can file objections in a prescribed format

All Industries to abide by the standards of emissions and discharges as Prescribed

Central Pollution or state Pollution Board can only make more stringent rules

Any newly introduced standard/rule /direction are to be compiled within a year of their introduction into rules, unless specifically stated otherwise.

Any industry who qualifies to have consent under the Air, Water act or authorization under hazardous wastes rules is required to submit Annual Environmental statement before 30th September each year.

Environment Statement Contains :--use of resources-raw materials consumption-Pollutants generated-Hazardous wastes generated-Impact of Pollution Control measures on

Environment.-Disposal Practices for solid wastes -Investment Proposal for Environment

Schedule I :- Industry Specific limits Schedule II :- General standards for

discharge of effluents Schedule IV :- Motor Vehicle emission

limits Schedule VI :- All industries specified in

schedule I must comply with general standards in this schedule. e.g.:- Load Based, equipments etc..

Guidelines to be followed by State Boards:

- Waste Water & Emissions to be treated by BAT (Best Available Technology)

- Industries to be encouraged to recycle & reuse wastes

-Industries encouraged to receive Bio gas & Energy

- Consider assimilative capacities while Permitting discharge

Put emphasis on clean Technologies Effort to remove color & odor from

waste Effluents to contain Biodegradable

materials Discharge to have BOD & COD limits BOD limit- 30mg/lt COD limit-250mg/lt

OD- It is the Oxygen demand by the Organic matter present in the water & is discharged in the form of CO2 , CH4BOD – It is concerned with nor mal industry, where the organic species can live & biodegradation takes placeCOD- It is concerned to chemical Industry , where discharge cannot be mixed with normal water. If it exceeds the limit tertiary treatment should be involved to remove these chemicals
