• In years gone by : ‘apprentice’ police officers 16-19 yearolds

• Early 2000’s : Volunteer Police Cadets re-launched inMetropolitan Police Service

• November 2016 : Surrey Volunteer Police Cadet schemelaunched

Why a cadet scheme?• Promote an understanding of policing amongst all young people

• Encourage a spirit of adventure and good citizenship

• Support local policing priorities through volunteering and by givingyoung people a chance to be heard

• Inspire young people to participate positively in their communities
