In a survey conducted by the National Book

Development Board in 2012, the total readership of

Filipinos in different reading materials in print is 88%.

Based from the collected number of articles from the top

newspapers in the country, some observations were

observed.

• News articles surged when the International year of

Astronomy was observed in 2009.

• The number of articles from 2012 to 2013 (as of 2nd

quarter of the year), increased. This may be due to the

Venus transit and apocalypse/ end-of-the-world incident.

• Also, the number of articles in 2013 are increasing due to

a more active public outreach.

Based from the collected number of articles from the top

newspapers in the country, some observations were

observed.

• There is a trend in publishing materials related to astronomy.

• The response of the public mostly depends on how the

article is efficient and interesting BUT based on the data

obtained, an increase of number of articles also indicate that

readers are interested.
