• The Forbidden City was built by the Ming dynasty. Once it was completed no commoners were allowed inside under penalty of death. The city was reserved for the Emperor and his family. An army of imperial servants and eunuchs also lived inside to take care of the imperial family. Only the Emperor may have a golden roof.

The first Emperor was Shi Huangdi who created the unified nation of

China. It takes the name of his dynasty, the Qin . He also left behind a massive tomb complex with over 7,000 lifesize

soldiers made of terra cotta.

The dam at Duijiangyan was built 2200 years ago to stop the flooding which was

destroying the crops on the Chengdu plain. It is still being used and making that plain a

very fertile area. The simple bamboo technology was effective and ingenious.
