The World Food Prize is the most prominent international award for individualswhose breakthrough achievements alleviate hunger and promote global food security.
Dear Or. Al-Sherbiny:
As the World Food Prize prepares to celebrate 30 years of recognizing and inspiring great achievements inimproving the world's food supply, I am writing in the hope that you will nominate a worthy individual for his orher exceptionally significant achievement that has resulted in a demonstrable increase in the quantity, quality oravailability of food for a substantial number of people.
The annual $250,000 World Food Prize, founded in 1986 by Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Or. Norman Borlaug ,recognizes exceptional breakthrough achievements in any field involved in enhancing food production anddistribution, and increasing food availability and accessibility to those most in need, thereby reducing hu~suffering and improving health and nutrition.
The very first laureate, Or. M.S. Swaminathan ofIndia, was selected for his role in spreading the GreenRevolution to Asia, where he spearheaded the introduction of high-yielding wheat and rice to farmers in theregion. During the past three decades, the World Food Prize has been presented to 40 eminent hunger fightersfrom countries around the world, including: Bangladesh, Belgium, Brazil, China, Cuba, Denmark, Ethiopia,Ghana, India, Israel, Mexico, Sierra Leone, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, the United States and the UnitedNations.
Our 41 st Laureate, Sir Fazle Hasan Abed of Bangladesh, will be honored on Octoher 15 as part of the BorJaugDialogue International Symposium for his unparalleled achievement in building a unique, integrateddevelopment organization known as BRAC, which many have hailed as the largest and most effective anti-poverty organization in the world.
We invite you to submit a nomination of a candidate you deem worthy of receiving the World Food Prize via ouronline form, available at www.worldfoodprize.org/nominate.
