Teaching Of Religion

In Context to Time ElementAnd India

Religion

Religion is a collection of cultural systems, belief systems, and worldviews that relate humanity to spirituality and sometimes to moral values.

Religion Many religions have narratives, Symbols,

Traditions and Sacred histories that are intended to give meaning to life or to explain the origin of life or the universe. They tend to derive morality, ethics, religious laws or a preferred lifestyle from their ideas about the cosmos and human nature.

According to some estimates, there are roughly 4,200 religions in the world.

Because it crosses so many different boundaries in human experience, religion is notoriously difficult to define. Many attempts have been made, however, and while every theory has its limitations, each perspective contributes to our understanding of this complex phenomenon.

Time Element

Religion in context with the time element:-

Past PresentFuture

PASTIn ancient times, knowledge could be

divided into:-

APARA VIDYA – the knowledge of the physical world from the outer senses

PARA VIDYA the Spiritual Knowledge gained from the inner senses or inner faculties–

Para Vidya can be imparted only by a competent Guru, who aids the disciple to seek in his own way for himself, at the proper time.

It had never been a part of the general educational system, but an exclusive jurisdiction of the Spiritual Masters.

The formal education was preceded by initiation into spiritual practices – Upanayanasamskara

Upanayanasamskara – It refers to fully recognizing the great importance of spiritual awakening for the all round development of human personality

Institutions of religious initiation gave way to ceremonial formalities.

The lack of appreciation of its importance, the arts and crafts, sciences and technology lost their moorings (connections or tie-ups).

Its purpose of the ultimate good of humanity and began to lead to mere excellence in skills and intellectual powers

PRESENT

The present state of religion in society is atrocious and dreadful.

Expecting the younger generation to owe allegiance to the religions of the older generations

Lack of loyalty

Lack of explanation of basicPrinciples and fundamental doctrines

SOCIETYUnconcerned, aggressive and antagonistic

FUTURE

The responsibility of teaching the basic principles and universal Doctrines, that inspires their symbolism, practices and institutions lie with the Religious Institutions.

What does we need? Moral teachings in schools and colleges. No propagation of one’s religion.

Exposure to highest objects of religion. Inspiring stories of great lives of men of all religions and countries.Practical approach and pure understanding.

Awakening of spiritual faculties.Working towards world community and world peace.

INDIA – Current standing & significance

India is a land of diverse cultures, its been known for its spirituality and philosophy.

It’s a birth place of some religions, which even exist today in the world.

The most dominant religion in India today is Hinduism. About 80% Indians are Hindus.

Around 500BC two other religions developed in India:-

Jainism – 0.5% of Indians Buddhism – 0.7% of Indians

In India, there is a lack of implementation of religious ethics and values in the educational curriculum.

The reference of religion can only be seen in Philosophies and Humanities.

India is being looked upon by the entire world to give and spread the message of

unifying all lifeReligious onset World peace

The necessity of developing an awareness of the Spirit and the importance of the development of the Spiritual faculty, is paramount in achieving the ideal of Fatherhood of God and Brotherhood of Man.

Following such an ideal world would be a major unifying force, eventually leading to WORLD PEACE !

THANK YOU !!
